As a writer of software, what other end do you have in mind except gratifying the wishes of your users?
I'm trying to understand if this is a personal preference that might vary from person to person, or if there's some more objective reason.
I have Firefox set up so that if I click on anything it will open in a new tab, rather than in a new window. This is how I like it to be. You, along with people who wish me to pay money to see naked women or to play online poker, have managed to circumvent this clearly stated preference. I resent this.
We've been calling it a pop-up, but it's not. Pop-ups are when a window opens without any user action, and that's what pop-up blockers are for. I haven't done any intervention of pop-up blockers. The announcement window is simply a new window. As I said, I'll take a look and see what I can do to make it more responsive to user preference settings.

Re: C & P
To expand on the point raised by Dr Adequate, in my tab settings for firefox I have set the option "Open new windows in a new tab instead". And that works for lots of things, including when I click on the "peek" button. But it does not work with the announcement, which apparently is forcing a new window in spite of my preference.

Re: C & P
Plus unlike with threads or posts, you cannot right click to open in a new tab.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

I have things set up so that everything appears in a new tab and not a new window. And everything else in your software does just that. This new "index to certain important topics" thing makes a new window. All I ask of you is that you make it do what absolutely everything else in your software does.
P.S: I've been a bit complainy lately, so could I add that it's excellent software usually.

Within the "Announcements: Index to certain important topics" link the first item of "Forum Guidelines" leads to a selection that does not exist.
I assume we still have guidelines and that this is a broken link.

How dull. I am going to assume that we no longer have guidelines, and that we may now do as we please.
I have not yet decided whether my next post should be personally offensive or merely sexually indecent ... but on thinking it over, I don't see why it can't be both. Are there any creationists on this forum with big tits?

Forum guidelines/rules link fixed
I also note (at least for Firefox) that left clicking on the new window announcement links opens them in a tab of the original window.

Can you drop the fucking flashing announcements?
Thank you.
Seriously. Flashing was rude in '99; it's even more so now.

Re: Can you drop the fucking flashing announcements?
Only announcement links that have never been clicked blink. The only exception is if the announcement is edited, which sets it blinking again. Also, announcement links don't blink for anyone who isn't logged in.
Is there interest among the membership for a preference that causes announcement links to never blink?

Maybe date the announcements?
Maybe an updated date instead of flashing?

The filtering a topic for an individual member's messages is broken
I've tried this at several topics. Regardless of what member's messages I try to filter for, I get only the Minnemooseus messages. If Minnemooseus didn't post in the topic, there are no messages displayed.
This seems to be a very recently created glitch.

Yup, searches only for the user making the query.
