Well, that's not what Matthew says, but let's just pretend that it does. Please excuse me if I take some time in responding, as managing both the Secularistic Agenda and the Homosexual Agenda take some time - not to mention lots of paper!
Paul makes it quite clear that he expects the end any year. He talks about how people shouldn't even worry about marriage, because the end of the world is near. All of the books continue to reference how close the end is. 20 centuries later, and there's nothing. The only unambiguous prophecy didn't occur. Name one other thing from the Bible that can be used as predictive value to test its accuracy. Seriously, though, I have no problem with you believing that Revelations is yet-to-come - that's just fine by me. But you're *Really* stretching your definition to try and see Vatican City as being Mystery Babylon, versus ancient Rome. Rome, which literally sat on 7 hills, whose colors were Red, Gold, and Violet; who quite literally killed many Christians; etc. There's no question at all - on every front, it is far closer than the Vatican. Rome, who was hated in Paul's time, was viewed as the center of extravigance and sin, who exploited the labor and resources of its provinces....

quote: In the same region? Well the Baltic states (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) are north-western Europe; the Balkans (Bosnia, Croatia, Herzogovina(sp?), Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia etc.) are south-eastern Europe. I suppose that could be considered the same region for Americans who are famous throughout the world for their lack of geographical knowledge. Recent conflicts in the Baltic states? I don't recall any outright combat since WWII. Is that recent? It's amazing how these apocalyptic types distort and rationalise in order to interpret biblical prophecy. It's almost funny in a sad way.

Hey, I don't think Aussies are ones to talk about the uneducated, rednecks, fundies, or anything of the sort. Remember, your country actually elected a government which installed nationwide censorship on all ISPs in the country.

quote: quote: Mr Buzsaw, given that Israel is the one doing the slaughtering and persecution, with you US fundies backing them up because you need them to get your end times going, how can the world not turn on you? Funny, I know that Islamic fundies consider the UN is biased against Islam, and that it is toothless against the US. So if you polytheists think the UN is pro-Islam, then maybe now the UN is just where it should be. In middle ground. Viewed from the extremes, everything is biased. Anyway, how would Muslims feature in your end-time scenario? Do we get to massacre anyone, or do we get massacred instead?

I would have commented on this also, but it's a topic for the Israel-Palestine thread; I'd recommend that if others want to discuss it, they move over there:

That buzsaw hasn't mentioned me as the starter of the end times. (Just so you know, it won't be the Vatican. It'll be wherever Kent Hovind is.) Besides, I'm the lord of Hell and High Water. So there.

quote: What will happen next? In order to answer that one must observe what is happening now. That possibly should go in a separate thread, as it involves a lot about Islam and other prophecies not directly, but indirectly related to Mystery Babylon. Let's try to keep the subject here on this Mystery Babylon city. As I understand the prophecy, the city will be literally and suddenly destroyed with people from afar viewing the smoke of it's destruction, much like was the case with our twin towers. Who'd have ever thought a few men in two planes armed with nothing but box cutters could accomplish this. Why should it be such an impossibility in our day for this prophecy to literally be fulfilled? The description fits 100% as I've shown to be the case and it looks and quacks like a duck. I can't prove to anyone that it will happen. I've shown that the prophecy is on track and fully capable of literal fulfillment as things stand to date. Each can use their own judgement as to the value or credibility of all this just as all can judge for ourselves whether it's possible for all that exists to self create with no intelligent guidance as some of you believe. To some of us that requires more faith than the supernatural via intelligence. RCC influence is giving way to pagan and other religions such as Islam. Public sentiment is growing against all Christianity world wide. Secularists and pagans are more or less aligning in this Christophobicism. It will become more so as time goes on. Every time you hear negative things about either RCC or other forms of Christianity, including us fundamentalists, remember the Bible said it would be so. Much, if not most of the negative attitude is warranted, as Christianity continues it's drift away from the fundamentals taught by Jesus and the apostles, and disintegrates into apostacy, as, btw was also prophesied by the prophets for the last days. There will, however, be overcomers, but they too will be persecuted and many more millions martyred via the great tribulation which is emerging upon us, and particularly in the Eastern Hemisphere.

I'd bet on that one It's not going to happen.
People have been saying "The end is here!" and "Look at how much worse this generation is than the last!" as far back as records go. The myth of a "Golden Age" is an illusion.
quote: Ah. Like the whole "turning the other cheek" thing? Or his message of undying tolerance (parable of the Good Samaritan, etc)? Yeah, I'll agree to that one. If you look at the world, yes, there are lots of people being killed in violence. But the majority aren't Christians. Since World War II, we've gotten exceedingly good at killing, and avoiding being killed. Unfortunately, that means that whoever ends up as our enemy suffers immensely, disproportionately. About the prophecy.... It quacks all right.... ------------------"Illuminant light, illuminate me."

No censorship here, bud. Sure you`re not confusing Australia with Austria? Hang, on, they`re in the same region.

So we have some ill defined and really just projections of current trends and, a biggy!, the literal distruction of the Vatican. Now since some have suggested that this is all almost 2 millenia late I guess we can expect this to happen sometime in the next 500 years?
Does it count if someone is actually trying to nuke Rome and the collateral damage is Vatican City? Ok, you have at least stuck your neck out, that's better than most. I will await the destruction of Vatican City. Given the times we live in, as you've pointed out, that isn't impossible but is still something of a long shot. It would be moderately impressive. It's too bad that's all you've got though. By itself it is only "mmmmmm" interesting not "wow" interesting. [This message has been edited by NosyNed, 10-01-2003]

If you read your quote from EFA, you will see that the legislation prompted by a concern over child pornography, is a complaints-based regime for content on Australian ISPs. Further down the page you will notice that the use of filters/blocking software is voluntary.EFA mentions that the instruction to Oz ISPs to install blockware is never inspected or enforced. Hardly the draconian legislation you are claiming.

The topic title has nothing to do with the censorship laws of any given country.

As I've pointed out even your distorted reading is not a good fit for Vatican City. The city itself does not rule over various peoples nor doea it hold any significant amount of territory on any continent other than Europe (and very little even there).
Ancient Rome on the other hand was famous for being built on seven hills - a reference that would be understood by readers from the time it was written until now. It did indeed rule over vast areas of land and over many people - and at the time of Nero (which fits with the comment on the seven Kings) it had persecuted Christians and did demand worship of the Imperial cult (that is worshipping dead Emperors as Gods). Quite frankly I think that the main reason is that you hate Catholics (and Muslims). I would also point out that complaining about UN intervention in the Balkans amounts to an endorsement of "ethnic cleansing". If that is not what you beleive I suggest that a retraction and clarification is in order.
