Re: Lock, open, lock, open...
I see the problem as stemming from a single participant who cannot remain on topic, who ignores moderator requests, who abuses other participants, who makes grandiose claims of irrefutability, who cannot describe his viewpoints in a way understandable to anyone, and who despite claiming that he is working with me to develop a new thread proposal to discuss his views has not posted to that thread in a week. I've asked the person to cease participation in the ICR Sues Texas thread, then as a safety measure I removed his posting permissions in the Creation/Evolution In The News forum.
The ICR Sues Texas thread is the kind of news topic where you can depend upon continuing developments over time. I think we'd all be surprised if ICR just gave up their attempts at accreditation and we never heard about this again.

Re: Barack
Hi Barack,
I'd like to add just a little bit to what AdminModulous said.
First, I put your thread in Coffee House because it wasn't related to the creation/evolution debate, and we don't moderate threads in that forum as tightly as we doin the real discussion forums about science and religion that bear directly on the debate.
Second, despite that your thread has nothing to do with creation/evolution you insisted on framing the discussion along those lines and on making the discussion personal by referring to those who disagree with you in a denigrating way as AlGorians, atheists and Darwinists. The same attitude you started with is being reflected back at you.
So I strongly agree with AdminModulous. Take the high ground in the discussion and you'll find that moderators will be much more willing, and more importantly able in a practical way, to provide assistance.

I'm seeing a 48 hour suspension. Unless something changes, Matt should be back in a couple days.

Re: Get On Topic
Hi Buzsaw,
There seems to be some interest in discussing claims of impingements upon freedom of religion, and also in discussing the influence of Biblical wisdom on societies and cultures, but neither of these are the thread's topic. Phat suggested What Is A Christian (Remix) as an alternative thread, and I'm sure there are others. Or you could propose a new thread over at Proposed New Topics.

Well, yeah, sort of. But as several people have pointed out, no one is saying they believe in life on other planets. They're saying that it seems like a reasonable possibility. I don't think Bolder-dash thinks God is just a reasonable possibility.
But you're right, Bolder-dash doesn't really seem interested in his purported topic, and it has also been correctly pointed out that Bolderdash is trying to play a game of "gotcha," and when people didn't give the answers he needed he just accused people of giving those answers anyway. If everyone else in the thread can just follow the Forum Guidelines a bit more closely for a day or so then I can bring some moderation to bear. As gets pointed out repeatedly, when no one in a thread is following the Forum Guidelines it's kind of difficult to single anyone out.
I don't know if you follow NFL football, but a week or two ago there was a major dustup between Cortland Finnegan and Andre Johnson. Punches were thrown, and both were ejected and fined $25,000. But Cortland Finnegan is a known instigator, so was it fair to treat them both equally? I don't think so, and I don't think the league thinks so, but there was no evidence that Cortland Finnegan was more to blame if you just look at that single incident. There was a basketball player a couple decades ago named Bill Laimbeer who was also an instigator who would goad players into major infractions. Robert Parish once punched him out.
But instigators on a bulletin board have a more difficult time hiding their instigations, but only if everyone else behaves. I know it's satisfying to get your licks in, but this site is supposed to be a boring "just the facts, ma'am" science site.
Edited by Admin, : Grammar.

I have no objection if people want to discuss which belief is more reasonable. I guess it would have to be a comparison between "I believe God exists" and "I think it's possible that life exists elsewhere in the universe." I think it would be fine if you want to suggest that or something like that in the thread.

Can you click on "Back", then click on the "reload/refresh" button, then try again? Let me know if that helps.

Now it works. Not ideal to do that everytime though.
Glad it worked!
If you do find you have to do it every time then let me know, because that means the problem isn't what I think it is. What I think happened is that the first time you visited EvC after starting IE that something interrupted the loading of that first webpage, and somehow the JavaScript file never loaded. Browsers only load a website's JavaScript files once the first time the website is accessed, so from that point on you were working without benefit of EvC's JavaScript code, which is only needed for a certain subset of functions, button clicking being one of them.
I think I'll add a suggestion to that message to try clicking "reload/refresh." Thanks for the info!
