Re: Whine & Cheese
I do not think taking action against a member solely on account of their (mis)use of English writing conventions is appropriate. That said, I am not convinced of the argument that all lowercase is easier to read for the simple fact that most members here have been brought up and are literate in the English capitalization convention tradition, and so are more comfortable reading within that tradition.
I feel that capitalization, like punctuation, is a reading cue that helps us find and keep our place in a text by marking certain references and transitions (important names and beginnings of sentences). Some conventions are merely arbitrary, I agree (capitalized first person singular pronoun I, for example), but many do have a legitimate purpose. In fact, I find that the text you quoted is easiest to read using English capitalization conventions, an example you didn't provide.
A 'properly-capped' post, unlike a properly-capped well, flows more easily for me. Content being equal, I'd find a post using English capitalization conventions more easy to understand than one which did not. However, I'd rather a good-content, no-cap post than a poor-content, capped post, so banning a brilliant person like yourself on account of not using capitals is just silly. You're worth reading regardless.

The deep red rose I see its thorn I just ignore the scent that's borne to me it's nothing I implore those scratches that I got before I just complain about the pain a lot I think of beauty's gain.
Well, what's that poem mean? Is it this?
The deep red rose I see
Its thorn I just ignore
The scent that's borne to me
It's nothing I deplore
Those scratches that I got
Before I just complain
About the pain a lot
I think of beauty's gain
Or is it this:
The deep red rose, I see its thorn
I just ignore the scent that's borne
To me, it's nothing. I implore
Those scratches that I got before
I just complain about the pain
A lot I think of beauty's gain
There's a reason you use convention. This is an extreme case, yes, but it makes the point.
Poetry is an oral art; its understanding should not depend on how it is written on the page. If it does, then it just isn't that good of poetry. (By the way, line 4 of your first rendition has an error.)

Re: Where are all the arachs?
No style guide since the age of typewriters has specified "period space space capital" formatting, because modern computers kern text - that is, they adjust the space between letters to compensate for the relative visual width of letters. In the age of typewriters "period space space capital" formatting was preferred because the text was monospaced and unkerned, so there was less visual density of text and therefore less apparent space between sentences.
"The Mac is not a Typewriter" is, of course, best-selling author and editor Robin Williams's cri de coeur against obsolete style guides misapplied to computers, and he spends most of it railing against "period space space capital" formatting, and he's absolutely right - unless you're reading this on your old IBM Selectric, somehow, you shouldn't be doing it under any circumstances.
I always double space after sentencesalways.

Re: Whine & Cheese
However, a message is text, and all single quotes in message text are escaped, so the actual query becomes:
insert into messages values (..., '\');DROP TARLE users;', ...);
Is this why when I do a PNT, the ' in my signature becomes '\ (or maybe it's \')? When I enter Edit mode and then Submit (even without making any actual changes to anything), it goes back to normal...
It only seems to happen in PNTs.

Re: Where are all the arachs?
In any other context where you're producing printed material on a computer, you shouldn't be.
Why shouldn't I be?

Re: Where are all the arachs?
I use a typewriter quite often. Not always with a Courier-esque font; but they are always monospaced (naturally). But that's not why I use double-spaces after sentences.
Now what I really hate are lining figures. Yuck.

Counting Blessings...
The temporary suspension feature is something I'm not familiar with on any other forum.
It's a pretty nice compromise between issuing endless warnings and implementing a permanent ban.
Twenty-four hours is pretty mild. Many have been suspended for less.

Re: Goodbye Suzanne
All I can say to those of you who insist upon logic, reason, and reality is that I will defend any new member no matter how illogical they are even in the science forums as long as they understand that they will be challenged by all of you and not to take it personally.
Even when they break forum rules, ignore moderator requests, and show no signs whatsoever of wanting an actual discussion?

Talking Honest - Not Allowed?
What gives?
Can we not speak honestly here anymore?
Sometimes there's just nothing nice to say about someone.
If Admin would prefer, I can move it to a different/new thread, though.
But it deserves to be known just what kind of a sick piece of shit Muhammad was.
Edited by Jon, : No reason given.

Re: Talking Honest - Not Allowed?
I'm just sayin'... you're a guest here.
And I'm fine abiding by Admin's rules.
I just can't wrap my head around the reaction to my simple and true statements regarding Muhammad. Sure, it might have been off-topic. But 'grenade tossing'? Lack of 'civility'? C'mon... this is Muhammad we're talking about!
Are we allowed to openly and honestly discuss this 'bad man' anywhere on the forum?

Love your enemies!
