Re: WOW!!!
Sorry to throw a wrench in your theory but can you tell me what the speed of thought is compared to the speed of light? Oh wait, your cosmologists never considered that as a viable question to even be asked, have they? So by what standard do you secularists think you have considered all possible scenarios regarding where we are, how old time and space is, how large and expansive it is or how far into it we can see?
Of course the speed of thought is just word salad, a totally meaningless assertion meant as an attempt to misdirect the audience attention so that they don't realize the rest of the paragraph is just misrepresentation and irrelevancies.
Nothing in this thread is related to secularists. For example, the initial description and calculations that became the Big Bang Theory was formulated by Monsignor Georges Henri Joseph douard Lematre, a priest and astronomer. It is understood and accepted by educated Christians worldwide.
The expansion of the Universe is NOT a secular idea or issue, only one of knowledge versus ignorance.
The second misrepresentation you make is asserting that anyone thinks "have considered all possible scenarios regarding where we are, how old time and space is, how large and expansive it is or how far into it we can see". It is only ignorant Christians that make any claims of knowing all the answers.
The third and possible the greatest misrepresentation in that paragraph is your assertion that we know how big things are. What we can know is a minimum size and age. We can know that we can see at least 13 billions light years and so the universe is at least 13 billion years old.
Speaking to you as one Christian to another, it is a shame that you worship such a small and dishonest version of GOD. Learn a little, you will find that GOD is far greater than the pitiful little bling-bling pimp daddy critter you seem to worship.

Re: Young or old universe
Of course, that is NOT accurate or correct. It might be true that some creationists really believe that the universe was created in six days but no one else. Everyone that has actually looked at the evidence understands it took about 13.7 billion years for the universe to evolve so far.

HUH?
Who told you that?
Do you even understand what that means?

Re: Young or old universe
Of course to say that "evolutionists (within the last 30 years) have come to agree with creationists that the universe got to be 75% of it's current size in less than a week" is simply word salad, meaningless as well as being factually wrong and another example of Creationist misrepresentation.
The first stars did not even evolve until millions of years after the Big Bang.

Re: Young or old universe
Jar, do you believe that the universe was 75% of the size it is now within a second of the Big Bang?
You said you disagreed with my statement that "evolutionists (within the last 30 years) have come to agree with creationists that the universe got to be 75% of it's current size in less than a week". I did not mention stars.
I think that is just word salad, something with no meaning. What does the size of the universe mean and what would it have to do with anything?
The universe is far more than simply volume. And the Creationist descriptions and myths do not correspond with anything that has been seen.

Re: Young or old universe
Actually I think it is even bigger than that right now.
Do you believe it was 50+ billion light years in size within a second after the Big Bang?
No idea, but that simply has no meaning anyway.

Re: Young or old universe
How can you say that question has no meaning. Cosmological Inflation (that the universe expanded to 75% of its current size within a split second of the Big Bang) was conceived to try to answer the classic conundrum of the Big Bang cosmology: why does the universe appear flat, homogeneous and isotropic in accordance with the cosmological principle when one would expect, on the basis of the physics of the Big Bang, a highly curved, heterogeneous universe? Inflation also explains the origin of the large-scale structure of the cosmos.
Do you believe in the Big Bang Theory without Inflation, the Big Bang Theory with Inflation, or some other theory concerning the formation of the universe?
I say it has no meaning because you have not yet explained what you mean by this Universe.
How do you measure size before there is something to measure?

Re: Young or old universe
The word "universe" is commonly defined as the totality of all physical matter and energy.
Okay. Well there was no matter until sometime into the expansion and I'm not sure how to measure what was there before there was matter.
So, do you believe in the Big Bang Theory without Inflation, the Big Bang Theory with Inflation, or some other theory concerning the formation of all physical matter and energy?"
I don't believe in any of them. The evidence though seems to show inflation.
But again, how do you measure size before there is any matter?

The lad, the light and the room.
Once there was a little boy who lived in a really big room. He was a very smart little boy and had a very bright little flashlight. When he stood real tall and reached up real high and aimed his little flashlight straight down, he could see the great circle of his universe laid out on the floor. But when he pointed his little flashlight away from the floor he could see nothing.
Daily he grew, and as he grew, and as he held his little flashlight higher and higher the great circle of his universe got bigger and bigger. But when he pointed his little flashlight away from him he could see nothing.
Soon he was all grown up and could reach really really high and the light from his little flashlight showed a much bigger circle of his universe laid out on the floor. But still, when he pointed his little flashlight away from him he could see nothing.
How big was the room?
