Re: Moral Dilemma
And I have replied that it depends on the circumstances. The bit with a bug vs a human is just too silly.
Now I will try to give you some insight as to my moral stance, for what it is worth.
If a psychopath was threatening to kill a human, I would try to stop the psychopath.
If a burglar was threatening to kill my wife, I would try to stop the burglar.
No negotiating.
No bargaining.
No choices.
Just stop the psychopath or burglar.
If that results in the psychopath or burglar dying, I will be sorry. But they will stop.

Re: Moral Dilemma
I would still try to intervene.
Legality enters in that case; legally there are limits on what actions I can take.
Edited by jar, : add second line.

The person is still a psychopath by your definition and so I would still have to try to stop him.
Do you see how silly your example really is?
Now if it was just some random person killing a bug I might not even notice, however more than once I've stopped someone from killing a bug so I could take it back outside and let it go free.

Making up Moral Dilemmas is easy.
Ringo writes:
If you had to choose between killing the worst dregs of humanity or the extinction of a "mere" insect species, what would you do? If you can't come down on the side of humanity in a specific scenario, your generalizations are meaningless.
It's always easy to make up dilemmas.
For example, is any human life worth the loss of bees?

Re: Making up Moral Dilemmas is easy.
A human is far too big to use for bait.
Look, I can see that it is possible to create really stupid examples but honestly, that is not a moral dilemma, that example is just silly.

Re: Making up Moral Dilemmas is easy.
I believe that you believe that is true, but sorry, there is little more that you are going to get from me.
I cannot imagine a situation arising where I need to go shark fishing or should one arise, where I can find no substitute for bait than a human, so it's simply silly.
Hardly seems like a real moral dilemma, more like juvenile fantasy.

I remain unwilling to play silly games, and yes, that is my position.

What we can learn?
Ringo writes:
You can't evaluate the "collective moral outlook" of a society by looking at nothing but its laws.
Except perhaps to say that the more laws they have the less moral the society.

Way too funny.
I'm sorry but other than comedic relief was there a point to your message?

Re: Human Rights For Apes?
Well, I for one am glad the the great apes in Spain may soon have their rights.

Re: Human Rights For Apes?
Well, I think it is only one day of the year and one street in one city where the freedom of the street is given to cattle and then only to cattle of the masculine child type. I could likely live with the bears in Spain being given equal rights.

Re: The US Declaration of Independence needs to be fixed
Does that really cover those lifeforms that are so highly evolved that they no longer separate self from all life?
