They're producers, for the most part,
Okay, that makes sense.
which means their "instrument" is a recording studio.
I don't have a problem with that. I like industrial music.
I dunno, you can have differing ideas about the amount of talent and training necessary to be a "good" producer, but regardless that's not a set of skills that lends itself to live performance.
You're right that having the BEP on stage (or in a video) is pretty stupid.
Well yeah. During the show I'm thinking, "what the hell is that guy even doing on the stage? Just standing there with some stupid clothes on? Wow, what a show "
I was asking my friends if maybe he wrote the song or something? As in, what is his job as a member of this group? Nobody really knew.
But I guess as producers and/or entertainers there's some work there for him to do. The point in having him on the stage is still beyond me.

Repeat of 2004
In my opinion the biggest flop of the half time show was the failure of Fergie's wardrobe to malfunction. Now that would have made for some good entertainment

Pssh... they have to wait at least 10 years 'till they can try that again.
...not that 10's a round number, that's just the actual IQ of folks that called in to complain about it.
Seriously, I never got that.
Boob on tv?!!! O.M.G. I am gonna light some fires!!
However, watching grown men lose their temper and punch each other in the head is just peachy-keen? C'mon... double standard much?
...I'm referring to that one punt return. I think it was the Pittsburgh guy getting behind the Green Bay guy and trying to push him into the ball? Well, the GB guy didn't like that... you see, that's just a bit too much physical-ness in a physical-game like football, so he turns around and cuffs 'em one upside the head.
Yup, much better to teach kids that rage-retaliation is just a minor penalty... but sex-education means bad half-time shows for the next decade!
One day, double-standard... I'll get you!

He didn't get mad because the Pittsburgh player was being too physical: he got mad because he didn't recognize that he had gotten himself into one of those rare situations in which it was both legal and reasonable to push around a punt returner who didn't have the ball.
He thought the Pittsburgh player was trying to start something, when, really, he was just trying to push him into the ball to make it a live ball that Pittsburgh could recover.

I saw them live at the VP Fair in St. Louis probably 5 years ago, they were really good, they had probably a 10-piece band with them, I thought they did good yesterday, but this is EvC, and I think I am supposed to say bad things about them here

I thought it was fucking retarded.
Seriously, all I could think was "What the hell are those other two dudes even doing on the stage? They aren't doing anything!? Why are they even in the "band"?"
Although, I can appreciate some trippy lights and dancing around n'shit...
Oh yeah, what's up with half the show not even being their songs? Or shit they had to sample...
They just seemed really pathetic all around.

"But the result of listening to just the vocals and having no music at all just destroyed the facade completely and the truth of their horrible singing came through without anything to temper it."
Those were my thoughts exactly. I didn't know if it was just me.
Their voices were decent - but it did sort of sound like someone singing karaoke to one of their songs.

The Pea's were amazing before that no-talent twat showed up. They were sick back in the day. But now, since Fergie, they've reduced to a not-so-memorable half-time show. It's sad to see that, they were one of my favorite groups.
This is some origianl BEP, before Fergie ruined them. As you will tell, it sounds nothing like the pop garbage they produce now. Plus the lyrics are sick, too.
This old shit is at the level of the Wu Tang Clan, who are the greatest ever. rip ODB

it was like a medley, it was supposed to be entertaining and fun for a general audience, like a weird al polka song:
if you already hate weird al or polka you still probably think its shit, but its not supposed to be an awesome song to begin with.
The problem is the the super bowl is many viewers 1st and only NFL game of the year, its such a watched NFL game that the league wants to do it so big (a reason the commercials are so good) and get new viewers as well as entertain the casual (I only watch the super bowl fan), that they always try and come up with something different for a half-time show. Its a please everyone approach the rarely ever works. They are already pleasing the die-hard football fan-boys (like me), and me/we could careless about half time other and taking a piss, and anticipating the 2nd half. the halftime show is for moms, girlfriends, wives, and everyone else who is watching a football game and is clueless as to what is going on.
as far as the group goes, I have liked BEP ever since i heard:
Though I still cannot figure out what the Mexican guy does, the Black guy and the Filipino rap, from all I can tell is the Mexican is a dancer.
I have their 1st CD and its great, it sounds like real hip-hop to me. I don't quite understand the h8 they get for supposedly selling out, but you know how people get when somebody they like blows up, and urbody listen to them. I refuse to hate pop if it sounds good, and BEP is still good, especially since i already know they could rock it if they wanted to.

From what I've heard, the hate is not for their success. Most people who loved the Peas, as I did, wanted nothing more than to see their rise. But Fergie? Why? Why on earth was that woman needed for that band?
It would be like giving De La Soul some white chic just to appeal to a broader audience. It was stupid, pointless and a disgrace to the kind of hip hop the Peas represented.

i don't really have an answer for that. maybe they were friends or something, i mean seriously what does Taboo add? too me it always seemed to be the will.i.am and apl show, did public enemy need flavor flav? or professor griff? did Chuck D need the rest of those guys at all?

i don't know if it is that extreme, i always thought de la soul was 2 dudes from brooklyn and one from long island (all black guys). BEP already had a black guy, a pacific islander (semi-asian), and a mexican (latino) all they needed was some whitey to round them out. i may have to look into it, because you don't need a white chick to appeal to a broader audience in this day in age, or i wouldn't think. Though wale did a song with lady gaga, shit i don't know.
