Take note that I am little drunk at the moment (it's Friday and thus free beer day at work)
Pick three EvC members to join yourself (yes you have to include yourself) in your EvC debate dream team. Who would you choose and why?
You can take the copout Gridiron approach and choose different teams for different specialisms if you must. Biology topics, physics topics, philosophical topics etc. Or take the harder challenge of going for the "soccer" based approach of having one team on the field for the entire match each with individual specialisms/strengths/weaknesses.
I am gonna take the soccer approach. My EvC dream debate team would be Oni, Mod and Rrhain plus my obligatory self. Why? Me - Coz I have to choose myself. Oni - Coz he funny and willing to try and get the other persons point of view even whilst disagreeing with it. Mod - Breadth of knowledge, philosophical underpinnings specialist and just generally good. Rrhain coz I would rather have his exacting lawyer like dexterity on my side than against me.
With that team I reckon we could take on almost any other debate team EvC could proffer on almost any but the most absolute specialist of subjects.
Who would you choose and why?

Well, for me, the Big Problem is getting around having to pick me. If I could have Oni speak for me, maybe. Not the same though.
You're rules make it tough when I have to include me. That means I have to kick off one of your 4. My first knee-jerk thought might be to kick you off since you so onerously forced me to include myself.
Hmm. Hmm again. Pooh Bear hum in order here.

Well actually free beer Friday is an Aussie tradition (it's an Aussie company) but one that we Brits are happy to partake in.

Team Crash
Is a four-person team a debate standard? I don't know much about the organized sport of debate.
Anyway, cleaving to the established "four person team that you have to be on yourself" protocol I would take Modulous, Schraf, and Dan Carroll. And I'm just joking about "Team Crash", I think I'd call it "Old School All-stars". Pretty sure they'd give all you young turks the what-for.

I can't narrow that down to three peeps, I'd be better off flipping a coin to decide.

As a teacher I ran an inter-school debate event once. The topic of debate was decided well beforehand and the position of each team (for or against the motion) was also decided before the debate. Interestingly it had nothing to do with the actual views of the participants who were expected to make the case for their allocated position whether they personally agreed with it or not. In the one I was involved in each team had 4 members with an opening argument made by each and then 3 responses each. Something like that. It was a long time ago.

Interesting choices. Dan Carroll isn't someone I am very familiar with. I will check out some historical postings.
If I could select an opposition team for my chosen team (name of team - "Gimps With Attitude") to face then I think I would pick yourself, Dr A, Bluegenes and Bluejay.
Sparks might fly.

Is there a peer-reviewed article in a respected scientific journal to support your testimony?

I love it so.

Re: Creationist Dream Team
Curious that so far people have tended to load one side of their team.
I'd pick
Aaron as the team theist (alternate slevesque)
Modulous as the team atheist (alternate ringo)
and
cavediver as the team physicist (alternate Son Goku)
... to fill in my weak side/s
Enjoy.
The next question would be whether we set up a Team Great Debate and what the topic would be

Should Straggler's point about taking opposite sides on an issue be embraced?
Let the topic decided upon NOT have anything to do with Evidence!
.
.
1. Does Lady Gaga dye her pubic hair? Naw - can't go that way, way off in the boondocks...
.
.
2. Do the recent events in Egypt auger well for the world? Wisconsin? - Naw, again booneyland.
.
.
3. Are Republicans good for anything? Is there anything positive at all, even one scintilla, that we can unearth in the American Republican Party? Naw - to specific to a country for an international debate forum. More booneyland.
.
.
4. Something actually about Evolution versus Creationism? - Naw, that's too obvious - what was I thinking? Cannot go there.
.
.
5. How about What A Good Debate Is? Yes - a self-referential debate on Debating! There we go, that's the ticket.
... a. one team argues that Debates are Worth Something
... b. the other team argues that Debates are Worthless.
.
.
.
Take the opposite side from what you really feel.
.
.
Wait wait! Another Thought!!!
When we do have this Super Great Debate, make it Anonymous as follows:
Team A versus Team B, only the rest of us outside have no clue on which team is which. Only Percy knows. The posts are made to Percy who then reposts them as either Team A or Team B. Those of us on the outside, and presumably in a jam-packed Peanut Gallery, will never know for certain which is which, except by guessing. The individual teams will do their best, collectively, to concoct a post such that the Peanut Gallery will have a tough time guessing which is which!
Instead of using Team A and Team B, have each Team make up a name for themselves. The Clobberers! versus The Evaders!
Poor Percy - wait - I can do this instead of Percy. email me at xongsmith@gmail.com with with each consensus-built post as the Debate proceeds.
Now, in forming teams, should we just let Straggler grab his team? No. Or should these teams be somehow determined by voting? EEEYuckko. By Total EvC posts of posters who are still active? THE PENALTY FOR POSTING TOO MUCH!!!! (We on the outside could like it!)
Take the top 8 at the time of the Starting Gun and pair them off 1,8,3,6 versus 2,7,4,5??????
...okay, nevermind.

An Actual Debate

If people are interested we could actually try and do this.
X writes:

If you wanted it to be like a formal team debate then that would be the case I think. But we can make up our own rules here.
Whether we will ever be able to agree on an appropriate topic and which team gets to pick Mod seem to be the main points of contention.....
