Quite often it is either impossible or difficult to implement the message response tab below messages so as to indicate that the member has acknowledged the message.
I need implementation of that feature quite often, being tagged along incessantly by Jar's numerous repetitive or non-substantive responses.

Can you describe what happens when you click on the link? Often, nothing. Sometimes it works and others it doesn't. When it doesn't work sometimes when I keep clicking it eventually takes. The last time I tried, after clicking numerous times nothing happened. Could the problem be in my mouse? I have had some issues with my mouse, but for the most part it works ok on other things.

If your computer or your Internet connection is very slow then you might possibly experience problems in that the text won't update. It waits for a response from the server for about 8 seconds, then it gives up, but rest assured the update has taken place. The next time you click and nothing happens after 8 seconds, try clicking on Refresh. After the page has been refreshed I bet you'll find the acknowledgment text in the right state.
You might consider upgrading to a Chrome or Firefox.

Thanks, Admin. That makes sense. However we went to Firefox once but there was some feature about it that caused us to go back to AVG.
Likely the problem lies in what you explained. I'll try some things and see how it goes.

You dont use one in place of the other. Thanks, Theodoric. Right. Our browser is Internet Explorer. Though there are some undesirable aspects of it, after trying Firefox, we decided to stick with Internet Explorer. I've tried waiting a bit before clicking or reclicking on the acknowledge button after what Admin posted. That has been working lately. It appears to indicate that the problem is in my slower browser capability.

It appears to indicate that the problem is in my slower browser capability. How long would you say it normally takes after you click a link for your browser to display a webpage? However long that is, that's how long you have to wait, on average, for the acknowledgement text to update. The reason for this is that the acknowledgement text is a link that sends a request to this website just like any other link. The only difference is that in this case only the text is being updated, instead of the entire webpage. Updating just part of a webpage takes advantage of a set of technologies collectively known as Ajax.

For one thing, after booting up or after my computer has been in sleep mode, it displays webpages slower than after it's been up and running for a spell. (Sort of like the ole man before morning tea or coffee.)Perhaps at times when the problem arose, it was shortly after the PC was aroused. I am reluctant to dump cookies, for one thing, due to loosing passwords, etc, though my son takes care of it when he's in town on a visit. That may be a factor. Thanks for your help. I think I can do fine with it, now that I understand the problem.

it seems the dominant trend in the birds and reptiles thread is about the origin of marsupial mammals, which has nothing to do with the topic, except that robert byers has the same ideas about both (and, presumably, any other groups of animals).
i would start a thread myself, but i don't think i adequately grasp precisely what robert's position actually is, so i think he should be the one to start a thread where he details what the position is. |

OliverChant is just a troll. I don't think so. He's an uneducated child (says he's 14) who certainly doesn't understand anything that he's talking about or the expected conduct here. But I don't think he's being intentionally disruptive, he just doesn't know any better. Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. -- Thomas Jefferson We see monsters where science shows us windmills. -- Phat It has always struck me as odd that fundies devote so much time and effort into trying to find a naturalistic explanation for their mythical flood, while looking for magical explanations for things that actually happened. -- Dr. Adequate ...creationists have a great way to detect fraud and it doesn't take 8 or 40 years or even a scientific degree to spot the fraud--'if it disagrees with the bible then it is wrong'.... -- archaeologist
