When you find a post that is too good to be missed, nominate it here as one of the April, 2011, Posts of the Month (POTM).
You message subtitle should include the author's name and the topic/thread title.
Message Format:
Author: Author's Name
Forum: Forum where posted
Thread: Thread title

Nominations should include a link to the nominated article, and a short comment on why the message deserves nomination.
Note: As always, this is not a thread for debates. Posts should be limited to nomination, seconds, and acceptance statements by nominees.

Once again, at least one member gave the message a "5", but not a POTM nomination.
A snippet from the message:
Setting aside the improbability of protein molecules and DNA strands forming on their own, the chance that our universe could/would be laid out the way it is, is extremely improbable. It's 1 in 10^133, to be exact.
Now, we know how dice roll. We know how cards get shuffled and dealt. We know how a roulette wheel turns. We know how lottery balls produce the winning numbers. But just what the hell do we know about how the universe came to become the exact way that it did?
Dwise once again managed to pull off doing an eloquent reply to a message that struck me as being a hopeless pile of baloney. Maybe a fair amount of tangential material, but I still find it to be an interesting read.

Dr. A, thanks for taking the time to write this. You said you were doing it not to convince marc but for everyone else and it was not to no avail. I can pretend to speak for some of us mostly lurkers in saying that your posts are enlightening, witty, educational, and inspiring.
Thanks for the work you put into the post.

If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be. --Thomas Jefferson

Whereas Dwise's reply was good, I thought that this message made a much better job of explaining what was wrong with the way creationnists use probability in "laymen's terms". This message is shorter and it would be the one I choose if I wanted to explain to the public at large why probability can't be used this way.
Edited by Adminnemooseus, : Change "18" to "19". Link did go to "19".
Edited by Adminnemooseus, : Add subtitle (good for the topic message index page).
