I gave up.
I don't have to put up with both browser problems and illiteracy in the same website. And I won't. But thanks for the help.

Yes, it's beneath us.
Yes, the guy doesn't have a chance. But despite Robert Heinlein's observation about trying to teach a pig to sing ("besides, it annoys the pig"), there is also the chance that he just might learn something. Back circa 1984, I met my first real-life creationist, a co-worker named Charles. My first question was whether Christianity condoned lying, since I had just learned of Duane Gish admitting that their Bombadier Beetle claim is false, but then continuing to use it thereafter. Charles' response was that of course lying was not condoned and that Gish was his hero. We talked off and on and then in 1985 when Gish and Henry Morris were going to debate Thwaites and Awbrey in Long Beach, CA, I told him about it and we bumped into each other at the debate. Of course, the merchant tables were covered with books about "Bomby" and poor Charles just wanted to be somewhere else. That was my first debate and it was also where I heard Morris use his "NASA document" moondust claim -- but that's another long and glorious story. On our way out after the debate, Charles was in shock and kept mumbling, "We have mountains of evidence. Why didn't they show any of it? We have mountains of evidence. Why didn't they show any of it? We have ... " Shortly thereafter, Weinberger cancelled our contract and we all departed to seek employment elsewhere. Six years later when I was taking a C++ night class (shifting from Pascal to C/C++), we bumped into each other again. He was still a fundamentalist Christian, but he was thoroughly disgusted with creationists and want to have nothing whatsover to do with them. I count that as a win.

The threads just stop with him saying "I will go and find out more...".I am not convinced that he goes off and researches anything.

You mean he's trying to "smile us out the door"? Most likely. It's a common response when one suddenly finds oneself way out of one's depth. At least he's not responding with deep and hostile denial, which indicates to me that he's very new to the fray and this is very likely the first time that he's discovering that might be something wrong with all the nonsense that they've been feeding him. It does take time for someone to process that kind of information, so I wouldn't expect him to come to his sense immediately. Plus, his stated age is 20, so he knows everything; to repeat a quotation attributed to Mark Twain:
quote: Even if it takes years for it to sink in, if he ends up learning something then that will be an accomplishment. Now in response to his statement on that other forum in the The problem with carbon 14 and other radiometric dating topic:
crazynutsx writes: Im not sure which direction its going (getting faster or slower) But i would say there is good case to say the speed of light is not a constant If you are traveling at 60mph in your car down the road and you flick your headlights on, wouldnt the light from the headlights be doing the speed of light plus 60? In response I'm going to prepare to chat with him about relativity, Marilyn Monroe, Doppler, refraction, radar, emission lines, and long long ago in a galaxy far far away. But not about Heisenberg uncertainty. Should be up by the end of the day. Is it just me, or was I starting to channel James Burke?

I hadn't considered that. You mean he's trying to "smile us out the door"? Most likely. Yes, that could well be what he was doing. But he promoted me to 'Researcher', so it would be rude for me to leave. dwise1 writes:

Nah...He was known for his sense of humour.

I have a sense of humor. It's just drier and not as boffo as his.
Perhaps more like a math teacher's sense of humor.

And I'm now "Informant". Is that supposed to be like that Matt Damon character? He used to have me as an Army First Sergeant, but I would have prefered Command Master Chief.
Better stand by with the mop. I just now posted it.

I suspect you're just wasting your time. We know that he already had trouble with your very simple algebra in the other thread about the sun's mass loss. What on Prometheus' green Earth makes you think he will understand relativity?

Hopefully, it'll open his eyes and he'll realize that he needs to crack open the books and learn something.
Remember, this is the guy who said, "I don't need to learn physics."

Not that I'm disagreeing with you, but there is no way in hell this guy is going to understand relativity without a rudimentary understanding of calculus. In fact, nothing in modern physics make sense without calculus. And I think this guy has proven he doesn't even know rudimentary algebra.

So I'm assuming this site is really not worth the time and effort? Oh how I long to actually debate issues with someone intelligent. I'm becoming more and more convinced that these Creationist are semi-retarded.....
