Great Debaters

Who would you like to see in a Great Debate with who?Which two members would you like to see go head to head, on what subject and why?I would like to see:Oni and Buz on cosmology - Coz it'd be funny, good natured and potentially informative in a head banging kinda way.Dr Adequate and RAZD on the (ir)rationality of atheism - Coz Dr A is one of the few atheists who hasn't engaged RAZ on this topic and coz if he did he would do it with characteristic "attitude" that would be an interesting counter to RAZ's subtler but equally attitude laden approach. "Curiously.........."Granny Magda and Slevesque on evolution as just an interpretation of evidence - Like to see this conversation taken to an end point.Mod and Percy debate anything that they can fnd to fundamentally disagree upon - Intellectual curiosity.Artemis Enteri and Rrhain debate a gay related legal issue - Just for the hell of it.

On what topic.........? Or is answering that question potentially going to result in an EvC meltdown?

That doesn't seem right! Maybe we can rectify it.To put you on the spot (ignore if you like) - Who would you like to Great Debate and on what topic? Potentially a classic. The escalating levels of sarcasm alone would be worth the entry fee.

Sounds like a summary of my EvC participation. Have you ever seen two old ladies fight over a game of bridge? It is not for the faint hearted. True. True. Point well made. Point taken. How about Oni vs Petrophysics on morality and lifestyle choices? Webcams at the ready.........And BRRREEEAAAKKKK(**Straggler starts popping and bopping to the beat**)

It's an interesting idea. You could argue that a really good debater should be able to argue both sides of anything. When Percy was looking for a creationist partner for (now suspended member) Faith I offered to try and take the creationist side with her as a sort of intellectual challenge. Percy considered it but ultimately wasn't convinced it was viable. On reflection I think he was right. The danger is that you just present a caricature of the position you don't really hold.

Yeah - In a competetive debate you simply get given the position you are going to argue and have to make the case whether you agree with it or not. there might well be merit in Xongsmith's suggestion. I am not sure but willing to find out. It would be interesting whether it works or not.Any suggestions as to who or what would make a good "reverse posittion" Great Debate?

Buz - Your exclusion of participation in science threads surely doesn't extend to Great Debates does it?If not then it really has even less to do with this topic than the inevitable vaguely on/off topic banter that I hoped for.

Fair play. I have already put Mod on the spot and am pushing others to act equally unchivalrously.But in my defense - I think the Great Debate format is a much under utilsed option here at EvC.Edited by Straggler, : No reason given.

Currently involved in a discussion with GDR and we seem to have reached the point of frustration that can occur wherever there are opposing positions.But I am really impressed with GDR and I think he is one of the best theistic contributors here.So - Yeah - Good choice. I would like to see that.
