Just went to the CNN web site to find out how the US gov't was doing in trying to get its act together. I noticed a box on the side that indicated which were the most read stories in the news.
Here they are:
Most popular stories right now
1/ Harris: Sex with Hef lasted 'two seconds'
2/ U.S. Olympic skier takes own life
3/ Actress: I got compliments for looking emaciated
4/ CBO sends Boehner back to drawing board
#1 was read more that 3 times more than was #4.
What a world.

Everybody is entitled to my opinion.

Where's the bit about Norway? Ever 'top five most read' I've noticed since the weekend has had at least one mention of the Norway shootings. Right now on the BBC it's Italian MEP backs ideas of Norway killer

Surely you are not surprised at that.
Boehner is no more than a bad joke. I can't blame anybody for not taking him seriously.
News sites put up items to attract attention and titillate. Those will usually get many more hits than the serious reports. But if you measure the amount of time spent actually reading the details, then that would move more weight toward the serious issues.
Sorry, but what Boehner does or says should not count as a serious issue.

I used to go on twitter every now and then and rant about politics mostly. It always amazes me what is trending, usually some ignorant pointless drivel about somebody like Justin Beiber or Miley Cyrus. I truly believe there are far more morons in the world then we need.

That's hardly the point. He is a player is this debacle in the US gov't right now that is on the verge of driving the US economy into the tank. (It's not going to do those of us who live next door any good either. ) However people are way more interested in the sex life of some guy who's in his 80's.

Right. But most of us cannot do anything about it, until November 2012. In the meantime, it is just boring.
The other issue is at least something to joke about with your friends and acquaintances.

It may be boring to you but if they don't come to a reasonable solution soon it will cease to be boring.
The two lead stories on CNN are both about the debt crisis and neither one is in the top 4 read stories that they list.
This one should be read by everyone and everyone down there should be putting pressure on theri reps to sort this out.

LOL... I am a radio amateur and was just now talking to a friend about AJ, I started listening to him on shortwave along with a few other shows, Power Hour ect... years ago. I told my friend that AJ mixes enough half-truths into his shows to seem like he has a valid point, you just have to go deeper and research thing for yourself. Alex is self serving and is out to sell Alex, knowing that makes his rants more entertaining. When he does strike a note you feel is true is when you need to dig deeper.

Default wont happen
Think about it, though. Which group of people...(in general) republicans or democrats...would be most affected by a default?
What possible benefit could be gained by playing chicken on a two lane highway?

The poor.
The rich hold enough wealth to weather the consequences of a delayed increase in the debt ceiling.
Thus the problem:
The pugs (= rich) have nothing to lose from playing their games (except seats, which is two years off and thus far beyond the four day memory span of the American public) and everything to gain (tax breaks for the rich).
The dems (= rich) also have nothing to lose from playing their games; they aren't a majority and needn't worry about taking blame for the fallout. What do they gain? They either get their way now or get to watch a lot of pugs go home in a couple of years and get double their way then.
Other than some feigned concern for the general welfare of the American people, there's no reason for either party to take this matter seriously.
So they don't.

Re: Default wont happen
The dems (= rich) also have nothing to lose from playing their games;
Specifically what "games" do you think "Dems" have been playing?
This crisis is solely a function of the fact that Republicans won't take "yes" for an answer. I mean, how is Reid's proposal not precisely everything that Republicans started out asking for? 3 trillion in cuts, no increase in revenue?
Once again, Jon, you're failed to educate yourself on the subject at hand, and as a result you're putting forth this nonsense "both sides do it" position. This crisis has been manufactured entirely as a result of Republican intransigence and bad faith. It's not a "disagreement between Democrats and Republicans." It's a refusal by Republicans to raise the debt ceiling under any circumstances. Full stop.
So they don't.
What, in your view, would be different if Democrats "took it seriously"? What would be different, for instance, from the current situation, where Democrats have offered Republicans precisely what they said they wanted two weeks ago?

Boehner even admitted it
Boehner says a large portion of Republicans want to force a default
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said today that some members of his own caucus who are refusing to agree to a compromise debt ceiling deal are hoping to unleash chaos and thus force the White House and Senate Democrats to make bigger concessions than they’re already offering.
I've yet to hear, from a conservative, why middle class Americans should vote for, or even be a member of, the conservative movement.....
