crashfrog writes: This crisis has been manufactured entirely as a result of Republican intransigence and bad faith. It's not a "disagreement between Democrats and Republicans." It's a refusal by Republicans to raise the debt ceiling under any circumstances. Full stop. Part of the dynamic is that corporate interests backed the election of a crowd of Tea Party goons, in the belief that they'd be useful in preserving tax breaks for the rich and in destroying as much government oversight of business and industry as possible. The problem is, these Tea Party goons really do believe in destroying the entire government. They're now beyond the control of the corporate interests that got them in. That's why they won't compromise, that's why they won't accept deals that include removing any existing tax breaks for the rich, even if those deals would result in bigger savings and allow more cuts than they're asking for. Did you see that the FAA essentially shut down today?

Jon writes: Thus the problem: The pugs (= rich) have nothing to lose from playing their games (except seats, which is two years off and thus far beyond the four day memory span of the American public) and everything to gain (tax breaks for the rich). The dems (= rich) also have nothing to lose from playing their games; they aren't a majority and needn't worry about taking blame for the fallout. What do they gain? They either get their way now or get to watch a lot of pugs go home in a couple of years and get double their way then. Other than some feigned concern for the general welfare of the American people, there's no reason for either party to take this matter seriously. So they don't. f what you are suggesting is true, there is little hope for humanity in general I would almost lean towards original sin...after all, how do we get corrupt?human nature seems to lean towards selfishness thus all politicians are selfish and as you say, pansies who wont take a bullet for the team the wealthy also appear to be selfishand I have seen daily examples of selfish poor people as well.

The problem is human nature itself Then the answer is to fix human nature. What changes would you recommend we make? JonLove your enemies!

quote: Its easy to get all noble and altruistic and suggest that we love one another and slay all selfish and self serving thoughts. Reality, however, suggests that this is easier said than done. I don't try to hurt other people. I just want to make sure that I am taken care of. I have no one to care for me aside from myself. Ironically, I worry too much about what others do. How much they make, and how wealthy they are relative to me...yet I neglect actually taking care of myself. The United States is the same way. The wealthy folks are only worried about their legacy and their heirs. They don't mean to screw up the country. They just don't want to have to be responsible for it. They have their own families. We need to unite as a country. I need to unite as an individual and stop being so schizophrenic.

quote: CBS news This is a prime example, IMO, of what kind of screwed up world we live in. I think she got away with murder and now she gets to potentially get rich from it? WTF I wish the media would just ignore this skank, well unless she is found dead. Larry Flint offering to donate a portion of the money to abused children and children's shelters is a joke, IMO the only reason he is doing that is to try and put a positive spin on making a murderer potentially wealthy, wich will happen anyway soon as she writes an OJ type book. ![]() "No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. I think she got away with murder and now she gets to potentially get rich from it? Well, yeah. That's sort of what "not guilty" means. How fair would it be if the government got to punish you for crimes you weren't found guilty of? (Oh, wait - they can and do.)

I know she was found not guilty, our justice system performed the way it should, the prosecutors didn't convince the jury. My opinion is nothing but an opinion, I didn't follow the case as close as some so its probably less informed than some, nothing new there

I am still a little confused about what is actually making you sick, in regards to that particular case... I know she was found not guilty, our justice system performed the way it should, the prosecutors didn't convince the jury. My opinion is nothing but an opinion, I didn't follow the case as close as some so its probably less informed than some, nothing new there It still makes me sick though. She was accused of murder. She was found innocent. Larry Flint offered her money to strip. She declined the offer. It's not much of a headline: "Woman doesn't strip."

I think she is guilty, JMO and I hate to think she will eventually make a nice profit, not from Larry F maybe, but she will get paid by somebody, interview, book deal. If I felt she was wrongly accused and justice prevailed then it would be different. Opinions are often irrational and I guess to some mine is irrational as they come.
I should know better letting BS like this upset me with all that is truly disturbing going on in the world, one might say my post is a good representation of what the OP was talking about to begin with. Worrying about BS in the face of potential financial crises."No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Who ever is the speaker of the house is up the creek right now. You got two types of republicans. The right to central, but want to get the job done, and the right wing extremist who have a prniciple they would be willing to destroy the country over (and which would in fact destroy the country if it got implemented)
