What makes you think God made anything FOR man?

There might be some Christians that might think that but it is certainly not supportable.

Wrong questions
HUH?
The universe is the size it is because that is the size it is right now.
Life on earth is here because ... we happen to be on earth.
You seem to think the universe is here for man. Man is simply one of the things there. You might as well ask why there are stars.
We're here because we're here because we're here because we're here...

Re: Wrong answers
HUH?
First, we don't know that there is only one small habitable zone.
We are the product of where we are. What you call a habitable zone is really only a habitable zone for us, and that is only because we evolved to live under those conditions.
It is where we are that determined what we are.
The universe was not made for us, we are the result of the universe.
Sure there might be Christians that actually believe and even say the silly things you claim, but not all Christians are that ignorant.

Re: Wrong answers
I've always been under the impression that Christians generally believe God made man in his image, and if he did that I'd assume Christians would think that the universe was created to house man. Unless they believe there is some other reason for there being so much more to the universe, why have so much stuff that is not needed for the existence of life on Earth outside of Earth and the Sun?
There may well be some Christians that actually believe that, but not all of us are that ignorant.

Re: Wrong answers
That depends on what you mean by reason.
We learn more about why things are the way they are every day.
The universe is the size it is because we happen to be living when the universe is the size it is right now. But it won't be this size tomorrow.

Re: Wrong answers
LOL
You still seem to be working from the position of "What's in it for YOU?"
Should the universe exist just for YOU?

Re: Wrong answers
Well, since humans wrote the Bible stories is it surprising that they made humans the central character?
For example the quote you posted is from the myth told in Genesis 1 which is actually a much younger fable than the earlier tales found in Genesis 2&3.
It was also written by folk that had an entirely different picture and image of God then the folk that wrote the older stories.

Re: Wrong answers
People have lots of silly ideas. I can't help that. But since there is not even such a thing as "The Bible", some universally accepted list of what books should be in "The Bible", it's pretty hard to think it is literally "The Word of God".
You'd think that God would at least leave a list of what should be included.

Re: Wrong answers
It's not a problem with the Bible, it is a matter of education and learning.

again, try being accurate.
However, since Christians loathe to consider that this would imply that created life should be common everywhere in the universe, which would undermine the Christian view of Earth's and humanity's "uniquely exalted status", or that the potential discovery of extraterrestrial life would (to them) undermine their opposition to "what evolution teaches", namely that life could "evolve" on any other planet, the creationists would tell you some time later that biological life is restricted solely to this planet (again, citing a truckload of simultaneous physical conditions unique to Earth which they believe life requires) and is thus impossible anywhere else in the universe.
Christian and creationist are not synonymous nor do all Christians hold the positions you assert in that quote.

Re: again, try being accurate.
But did you say
quote:
However, since Christians loathe to consider that this would imply that created life should be common everywhere in the universe, which would undermine the Christian view of Earth's and humanity's "uniquely exalted status", or that the potential discovery of extraterrestrial life would (to them) undermine their opposition to "what evolution teaches", namely that life could "evolve" on any other planet,...
Those sure look like you are implying those parts of your statement apply to all Christians.

Re: again, try being accurate.
Why do I suppose what is?
Isn't all the above just another example of the "common perception" being based on fantasy as opposed to reality?
I can of course totally refute the fact that those assertions apply. I'm a Christian and they don't apply to me or to any of the Christians I regularly associate with.
There is always lots of blather, almost always among folk that are just plain uninformed.

Some gods should be opposed.
Or from the lips of a reasonable child talking about an abusive father.
