Re: King Log And King Stork
And it should be professional, not personal (moose seems like it's a little personal with some people, jmo), I could give a shit what a moderators personal opinion is about anyone.
I think the problem with (some) moderators are that they can make it impersonal. It's like a fundie saying: "You're not arguing with me, you're arguing with God". Some moderators find that some people are contrary to the Spirit of Moderation, which is in fact constituted by their own decisions, opinions, and actions, but they forget that.
This is just a hypothesis, and if we're talking about Moose in particular I disclaim any ability to read his mind.

Re: King Log And King Stork
I wasn't intending to single out moose (and failed), but his comments about peoples "boiler plate rants" seems a bit personal and very unprofessional, not qualities I want in a moderator. Sort of like when I get pulled for speeding, I would much rather deal with NC highway patrol as opposed to a small town cop. Small town cop could go either way, my experience with the NC HP has shown me they are professional in their actions and I know what to expect, my local police not so much.

Re: King Log And King Stork
But, IMO, in the context of recent events (when you factor in IamJoseph), it seems VERY harsh to do what was done to jar and Coyote. IaJ comes in like a rabid pigeon, flinging shit everywhere, NEVER even remotely on topic, for a week and only AFTER that week does he seem to catch Percy's attention. Moose didn't even say shit when I reported him: his message in the republican thread was a general reply to ALL. Now, sure, apparently he (IaJ) is well known to do this; but why does that seem to excuse it? He even makes Bertot sound reasonable by comparison for fucks sake!
Jar and Coyote's replies were ON TOPIC....regardless if they addressed JBR or not, they were ON TOPIC. This, IMO, shows me how much leeway the religious get, regardless how much they want to throw the persecution complex card.

Re: King Log And King Stork
I wholeheartedly agree. IamJoseph has been give way too much leeway, and his punishment is much less.
I might start a topic for "word salad", kind of an anti-post of the month. or an award for the most unintelligible drivel. Maybe call it the "Salad Bar Award".

Cry me a river. Good grief!
Both sides get away with a lot of crap.
If IAJ or anyone else is off topic, DON'T RESPOND!
If IAJ or anyone else doesn't make sense, DON'T RESPOND!
How hard is that?
In one case IAJ started on topic, but someone had to pick the one off topic comment out of the post and try to correct it. Then it went amuck.
How many times have we asked people to stop the useless one liners? Both sides.
This is a debate forum, not a correct-every-wrong-thought-or-fact forum.
A debate is a discussion involving opposing viewpoints of a specific topic. Notice the bold part. Specific Topic
How many times do we have to hear from some of those who are religion free that they feel religion is stupid? If it isn't the point of the topic, get over it.
How many times do we hear from some of the religious that unless one believes a specific way they will go to hell? If it isn't the point of the topic, get over it.
We are guests on this board and the owner has rules.
I like the rubber dart post.

It really helps moderators figure out if a topic is disintegrating because of general misbehavior versus someone in particular if the originally non-misbehaving members kept it that way. When everyone is prickly and argumentative and off-topic and personal then it's just too difficult to tell. We have neither infinite time to untie the Gordian knot, nor the wisdom of Solomon.
There used to be a comedian who presented his ideas for a better world, and one of them was to arm everyone on the highway with little rubber dart guns. Every time you see a driver doing something stupid, you fire a little dart at his car. When a state trooper sees someone driving down the highway with a bunch of darts all over his car he pulls him over for being an idiot.
Please make it easy to tell you apart from the idiots.
In the Republican thread. IAJ's first post was basically on topic. After your response, his answer was baffling to say the least. Two others responded to that nonsense and kept the ball rolling off topic. Why? No one wants to hang up first?
Why respond to a post that is off topic?
Why respond to a post that seems incoherent?
This goes for both sides. Neither side is immune from the "holier than thou" attitude.
If people want to help?
Stop the useless wisecracking oneliners that don't move a discussion forward.
Stop responding to off topic posts or even off topic portions of an on topic post.
Stop responding to incoherent posts.
We are guests. Put our best foot forward, not our worst. IOW, try to keep our own bumper free of rubber darts.

How about Buzsaw being banned from Biblical Accuracy threads?
Biblical Accuracy is in science, yet reference to the Bible is essentially banned from science threads. Case in point: IAJ suspended for applying the Bible in the Biblical flood debate.
If there's any semblance of moderation on behalf of creationists here, it's Adminnemooseous's concern for fairness.

I don't know about "petty" and "vindictive" --- that suggests that there's something personal in it.
Hmmm, Jar's mere reply of "too funny" to a rather extreme case of moderation earns a *4-week suspension*, and it's not personal??? I guess insanity could be another explanation.

Yea, I know. And you will notice that both jar and Coyote WERE ON TOPIC whereas IamJoseph was off topic in damn near every post he wrote up, yet jar and Coyote get the boot almost immediately and IaJ gets a weeks worth of leeway, posting more offtopic nonsense than ANY OTHER POSTER on this board. Ya know, cuz that's what my post (the one you responded to?) was about.
Perhaps you should spend less time getting butthurt when people talk bad about religion and the religious and more time moderating.

You really are clueless aren't you?

Have you really done the math? I doubt it.
I know what your post was about. My point was that by not responding, opponents could cut down on the amount of off topic nonsense. Don't add to the problem.
It's the same thing I told IAJ to do when people pull out a piece of his post that is off topic and demand response.
So I give the same advice to both sides. Neither side listens. Imagine that.
I doesn't matter what people say about the religious or religion as long as it is ON TOPIC and follows the RULES. What part of that don't you understand?
Rule #10: Always treat other members with respect. Argue the position, not the person. Avoid abusive, harassing and invasive behavior. Avoid needling, hectoring and goading tactics.
Most importantly
Rule #1: Follow all moderator requests.
When the position is off topic, DON'T RESPOND!
When the post makes no sense, DON'T RESPOND!
Keep the darts off your bumper!
Coyote and Jar survived the meltdown. I'm sure they can survive this.

Good form, moderator.
Have you really done the math? I doubt it.
You're right, I haven't. What I have done though, is notice that even when others DID ignore IaJ, he responded to them with his bullshit nonsense anyways. Well, I certainly know he did to me, on numerous occasions. You will notice that I am singling him, as well as this whole jar/Coyote shenanigan, out. I am not, however, speaking of general activity at EvC. My post was mostly pertaining to this past week, even though I did allude to general leeway that religious types get.
When the position is off topic, DON'T RESPOND!
When the post makes no sense, DON'T RESPOND!
And you will notice that 99% of posters do this. I am referring to IaJ who constantly, this entire week or so, came in like a rabid pigeon and flung shit-nonsense everywhere and YOU or any other mod, didn't even so much as bat an eye. But yet you want to come in an complain to me about every other poster? Remember: I am not talking about general moderation or member participation. I am talking about how IamJoseph was handled as well as how jar and Coyote were handled.
I doesn't matter what people say about the religious or religion as long as it is ON TOPIC and follows the RULES.
Really? Then why is that the ONE sentence of my post that you quoted and jumped on in your initial reply to me?
Coyote and Jar survived the meltdown. I'm sure they can survive this.
As am I. However, we aren't discussing jar and Coyote's wellbeing, are we? We are talking about poor moderation.

Honestly, providing instances of this nature go unprotested or even encouraged, I'd place my chips on 'Much More So'.
However, perhaps moderation actions of this nature will deter jar from parking his Pinto in the Schwinn lane
The Mayor of Vilnius was quoted by the Irish Times, explaining:
Recently there's been an increase in this type of parking violations, and it shows a lack of respect for others.
It seems a tank is the best solution lol - good ol' Lithuanian justice ...
