The rich don't hold the world on their backs - they few stand on the shoulders of the many who are poor and do the actual work.
But that IS the quality they hold in high regard. What they don't do, however, is acknowledge the fact that this person whom is so esteemed goes directly AGAINST two huge talking points (religion and abortion). The fact that Ayn Rand was an idiot in regards to the points you mentioned says nothing about why it is ironic that she is held in high regard by the TP.

In lurk mode and as a person from the UK I find not wanting to support the less well off totally bizarre.
It is also totally bizarre coming from a movement that is supposedly a christian movement. How many times did Jesus talk about giving up your riches and helping the poor? How many times have the Pro-Lifers talked about how precious life is . . . unless they're poor.

Admin warning
This is not really a political forum, and I have no qualms about closing this thread if things go awry here.
Several people almost got suspended in this thread. Instead let this serve as a warning.
hooah212002, the first post was fine as far as it was satirical. It should have been clear, however, that your opponent had not noticed and was taking you seriously. Continuing the ruse could therefore be seen as trolling. Remember Poe's law.
Nuggin, you clearly have problems with discussing this topic in a dispassionate fashion. Please consider desisting from further discussion in the tone you have set so far. Arguments that your opponents are compassionless monsters are irrelevant to your responsibility to debate dispassionately and respectfully.
New Cat's Eye, I can't say you've done anything terrible. On the other hand, your participation here could be interpreted as you attempting to give your opponent enough rope to hang themselves with which is basically sophisticated trolling. Maybe this isn't the case, but you have been a little vague and you know Nuggin well enough to push the right buttons while appearing to be on the good side of the forum guidelines.
This is not a discussion, please do not respond with your outrage at my characterisations of you. This is just a warning to encourage everybody here to do their best to avoid problematic discussions. Any further nonsense could result in suspensions, and I don't promise they will be completely fair. So...you have been warned.

Did no one see my Message 69 where I admitted to playing Devils Advocate? Just because the Tea Party position is so insane doesn't make it "trolling". The line, I fear, between devils advocate and troll has been blurred.

Funny how caring so much about life also carries absolutely no weight as to the absolute minimum quality of that life. Abortion is bad, but once that unwanted baby comes out, it can starve, get beaten, lack medical care, and generally live miserably until it dies.
They won't admit to that, of course - but they never want to put their (tax) money where their mouth is. They'll say they care...but at the end of the day, words do very little. Donations are fickle and undependable. Tax dollars can and do feed the hungry and give medicine to the sick. Funny how they talk the talk, but kick and scream when you try to fund a program for the poor.

Re: Admin warning
Nuggin, you clearly have problems with discussing this topic in a dispassionate fashion. Please consider desisting from further discussion in the tone you have set so far.
Can you provide some guidelines on how one discusses something like people cheering the death of Americans in a dispassionate fashion?
Should we start each post with:
"Look, we all know we don't care if children die, but theoretically speaking..."
Why bother discussing anything if you aren't going to be passionate about it?
We're not arguing about whether or not raisins should be in oatmeal cookies.
Passion is an important part of this debate.
Several people almost got suspended in this thread.
Really? Well, then let this serve as a warning to you.
The thread is "free for all".
Need a description? Here's one from the board:
Interested in free and wild debate unencumbered by most moderation? Then this is the forum for you. Just stay on topic.
_FREE and WILD_ debate
_unencumbered by most moderation_
Were we off topic? No.
Were we free and wild? Yes.
Were we threatening the lives of other people? Spouting KKK propaganda? Putting up links to spam websites? No.
No, basically, you just don't like what was being said, so you rode in here to tell us we can't say it. In the ONE forum where you aren't supposed to do that.
Now, there's four possible outcomes. Let's guess what's going to happen, shall we?
1) You delete this post because you are embarrassed
2) You suspend me for daring to question your authority
3) You close the thread in hopes that others won't see how you've overstepped your bounds
4) You admit your were wrong and go away.
Is there ANY chance of it being #4? Don't think so.

While I was not sure if you were truly arguing the position or merely pretending to argue the position. Your posts were not trolling.
You were, in fact, posting exactly what we'd expect to see from a Tea Partier.
Clearly, someone just wants to be bossy and tell you not to do things which CLEARLY are not violations of the board, let alone of the "free for all" forum.

What strikes me even more is Palin's rhetoric about helping out those "Momma Grizzlies".
For instance, Palin has called for the repeal of "Obamacare". Part of that bill prevents insurance companies from taking away children's health insurance because they get sick. How does repealing Obamacare help out those Momma Grizzlies? I just don't understand how someone can say one thing but clearly campaign for just the opposite.

Comment about the "Free For All" forum
I've come to look at the "Free For All" forum as being the local sanitary landfill (aka - garbage dump). Quality topics can happen in the FFA, but as such, they probably didn't need to be in the FFA.
From my moderator perspective, the FFA is not so much a sanctuary from moderation, but rather a place the moderators don't find worthy of expending time and efforts.
But even in the FFA, there is the moderation tradition to try to at least keep the discussion somewhere in the vicinity of on-topic. I think that even that tradition has faded in recent times.
I now note that this topic wasn't directly started in the FFA - It was placed there by AdminPD. I probably would have placed it in the "Coffee House".
Bottom line - If you're really out to make yourself look stupid, the FFA is the place to do it. It is still my hope that people aren't at evcforum.net for the purpose of making themselves look stupid. Or something like that.

Please be familiar with the various topics and other links in the "Essential Links", found in the top of the page menu. Amongst other things, this is where to find where to report various forum problems.

Re: Comment about the "Free For All" forum
Since your response to me was not one of a disciniplinary tone, but more of your opinion and you only happen to be using your admin avatar, I feel OK to respond. normally, I wouldn't respond to you, Moose, in your admin mode.
Bottom line - If you're really out to make yourself look stupid, the FFA is the place to do it. It is still my hope that people aren't at evcforum.net for the purpose of making themselves look stupid. Or something like that.
If you are trying to say I made myself look stupid, think again. Now, you may think the things I said were stupid, but that's something you need to take up with the Tea Party and how they present themselves as I was just attempting to portray a member of that particular group as best I could since their presence is lacking. I sincerely doubt that if it had been Coyote, you would have said as such.
Again, just because the positions are idiotic, doesn't make it trolling to present them in an insincere fashion. I think I got my point across rather well in proving just how stupid the positions really are. Isn't that part of the purpose of a Devils Advocate?
But even in the FFA, there is the moderation tradition to try to at least keep the discussion somewhere in the vicinity of on-topic. I think that even that tradition has faded in recent times.
How were any of us off topic?
I propose a poll to be conducted to see how many members want to do away with ALL topics political since they seem to be met with such contention by a certain few....
