Re: Comment about the "Free For All" forum
Since your response to me was not one of a disciniplinary tone, but more of your opinion and you only happen to be using your admin avatar, I feel OK to respond. normally, I wouldn't respond to you, Moose, in your admin mode.
Bottom line - If you're really out to make yourself look stupid, the FFA is the place to do it. It is still my hope that people aren't at evcforum.net for the purpose of making themselves look stupid. Or something like that.
If you are trying to say I made myself look stupid, think again. Now, you may think the things I said were stupid, but that's something you need to take up with the Tea Party and how they present themselves as I was just attempting to portray a member of that particular group as best I could since their presence is lacking. I sincerely doubt that if it had been Coyote, you would have said as such.
Again, just because the positions are idiotic, doesn't make it trolling to present them in an insincere fashion. I think I got my point across rather well in proving just how stupid the positions really are. Isn't that part of the purpose of a Devils Advocate?
But even in the FFA, there is the moderation tradition to try to at least keep the discussion somewhere in the vicinity of on-topic. I think that even that tradition has faded in recent times.
How were any of us off topic?
I propose a poll to be conducted to see how many members want to do away with ALL topics political since they seem to be met with such contention by a certain few....

I certainly hope an opinion piece isn't the best you've got.....

Re: Fire Marks
many americans would surprisingly say yes.
The ones who would say yes are clueless as to what the ramifications could be for privatizing said services. I'd also venture a guess and say those same folks watch fox news, vote strictly republican and demonize social anything, all the while making sure to get there hands on medicare and medicaid. But of course they would want private libraries because they see no need for poor folks to do any bok lurnin.

Re: Fire Marks
but there SHOULD be a tipping point where enough people will eventually need said services
Isn't that why they are not private now? Because we realized that everyone deserves equal access to them? Why should we "try it out" when we know the private system is fucked?
unemployment benefits are a good thing when Bush's Enron cronies lay off their employees and steal their pensions.
But the people we are secretly alluding to are against unemployment (until they need it anyways).
We have seen where the tea-partyists would prefer to go over the cliff.
No...they'll throw YOU off the cliff because "fuck you, I got mine".
What can be done?
Viva la revolucion'!

Re: Fire Marks
Then perhaps you could weigh in on my "Occupy Wall Street" thread so we stop derailing this one?

You really can't pull your head out of your "hebrew bible" for two seconds to have an adult conversation, can you?

Re: bad quality?
What are you guys referring to as the "bad quality" aspect of US health care?
Don't we have some of the best doctors and most advanced technologies?
I don't have any figures, but I would say that, sure, we do have some great care if you can afford it. If you can (a) afford the monthly premiums or (b) afford to pay it outright. However, A LOT of people can do neither. The fact is: people have gone bankrupt, lost their jobs, depleted their life savings etc., all because they fell ill. So many more people can't afford basic pre-emptive care that would stop a number of sicknesses before they become serious. A number of people use the emergency room for stupid shit because their PCP won't see them due to the fact they know they won't get paid.
Now tell me: does that sound like first world health care to you? It sounds like a back alley 3rd world country to me. but, that's the american way: "fuck you, I got mine".

Re: Canadians to Us for Healthcare? Not many.
For example, the VA system treats veterans, but only if they are low income.
AND....only if you get an honorable discharge. I got a general and lost ALL my benefits. I may as well not have served at all. Hell, I didn't even qualify for unemployment when I got out.

Re: Canadians to Us for Healthcare? Not many.
I found this. I don't know how on topic it is, or if it varies greatly form province to province. All I know is that I would fucking LOVE these prices....
Monthly premium rates
Full Premium
Single: $63.50
Family: $118
You will be asked to pay 30 per cent of the cost, to a maximum of $25
Note: this is NON-GROUP coverage....
