was there a water layer before life on earth?

sorry. i'v heard that there used to be a layer above the atmosphere.but it doesn't make sence that their would be a water layer in space.and if there was a layer before life on earth were did the oxygen come from to combine with the hydrogen to form the layer.

Everything that ever happened throughout all time occurred after the Big Bang, so saying that you're talking about the water layer that occurred after the Big Bang doesn't really narrow it down.Why don't you take a look at this Wikipedia section on the vapor canopy and see if that's what you're thinking of.

The waters from the vapor canopy fell to earth about 4300 years ago to form Noah's flood.The idea of a water layer doesn't sound at all familiar to me from a scientific or evolutionary standpoint.
