Wall Street occupiers evicted from Zuccotti Park. Occupiers looking likely to be evicted from St Pauls. There seems to be a significant drop in Occupy related media coverage.
What and where next for the Occupy movement?
Is it dying out, regathering or as strong as ever?
A thread for Occupy related discussion.

Occupy Sacramento is a bit smaller now with the "colder" weather, but they're still camping out in the park across from City Hall.

The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it.
- Francis Bacon
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

finally a drop in coverage
Finally. the Media over covered the Flea Baggers. I am glad the double standard is dying down.
good riddance.
1. What and where next for the Occupy movement?
2. Is it dying out, regathering or as strong as ever?
1. Its getting cold outside (yet warmer than winter should be, lol), they are done, the joke is over.
2. yes, it's dying out. it only really ever existed in the 1st place because of all the hype the media put into it.

Media coverage is indisputably part of it. No political or social campaign of any sort is likely to gain traction without media coverage these days is it?
But does that alone explain the global phenomenon of the Occupy movement?
I mean if I started a campaign about the evils of electric blankets I doubt I would inspire that sort of participation even with all the media coverage in the world. So what has inspired so many people in so many places on this issue?
In my recent month off of EvC (did anyone notice - Nah thought not) I spent quite a bit of time down at the Occupy site at St Pauls. It was interesting to say the least.

are you speaking globally or nationally? Nationally I think grassroots movements are still possible, and I still think there are examples, but the rest of your post seems to infer that is a global phenomenon.
But does that alone explain the global phenomenon of the Occupy movement?
is it? or is it just the English speaking world (something that could be generated through news media). I don't watch the BBC all the time but if there was something "big" going on I turn to them for their POV.
Is there an occupy Paris? Moscow? Beijing? Johannesburg? Mexico City? Brasilia? Madrid? Kuala Lampur? Bangkok? Canberra? Nairobi? Karachi? New Delhi? Warsaw? Prague? Riyadh? Tehran? Jerusalem?
how global is it? It doesn't seem that global, or that big of a deal to me.
So what has inspired so many people in so many places on this issue?
I think that is just the conception the media wants you to think. its really not that big of a deal.

It's pretty tame in Washington DC. Been by there twice, just some bums camping in a park. the crowd grows at lunch time, and after work, but the "for real" serious people are maybe 20 ppl tops. All I can see about your global event is what is down the road in DC, and out here it looks like a total joke. The Steven Colbert thing on the national mall was 100 times better.

If this is anything to go by you are being overly cynical.

Bullshit. My dad and I drove by it last week and the encampment was sufficiently large and significant that my dad was like "Jesus, what the hell is this?" McPhereson Square is wall-to-wall tents.
20 people? It's more like 200. They have a permanent installation with solar panel power generation, apparently.
I'll pop down again in a few weeks and post some pictures.

when? during the holiday, i'm sure the numbers were inflated.
It's like two blocks from Barry's house, and it aint shit.

yeah please do. I'd love to see the massive amount of protesters. I haven't been out there in a couple weeks, maybe as the news media continued to hype it up, more people wandered down to see the hippies (you could probably smell them from the white house). I saw it in September and was like "this is it? roflmfao, big deal".
much ado about nothing.

Re: finally a drop in coverage (pure saracasm)
well thanks for the link, though its still pretty funny.
turns out there was one in Mexico City. 250 people showed up (not bad for a city of 20,450,000 people). that sounds like a BIG DEAL there.
did you see the numbers in Tokyo? the Japanese are mad about this!
100 people out of a population of 32,450,000 (the largest on EARTH).
Wow this is a global phenomenom!?!
this thread should be under humor. it's fricking hilarious. I have to take break i'm choking on my coffee this is so funny....

Does it surprise you that a majority of Occupy attendees have fulltime jobs to take care of?
At what days and at what time, do you think a Tea Party protest will attract the most people? Wednesdays at 11AM?

What and where next for the Occupy movement?
That's what I haven't understood since the beginning... What are the protester really expecting to happen?
Its not like either the banks or politicians are gonna go: "Oops, yeah, we fucked you all. We're sorry. Here's your money back."
I just don't see any actual results from all this. Seems the ballot box would be a better place to make changes.
Although, I guess the portests can win the hearts and minds of the voters and get them out there to actually vote. But that isn't really the message I'm getting from them.

What and where next for the Occupy movement?
LA had a big movement recently and the movement here in NYC is still going strong. Jackson Browne was at Zuccotti Park performing and mentioned the movement and should full support. I don't know why that's relevant.
Problem is, no one gives a shit about the plight of the white middle class. Seriously, who gives a fuck? Civil rights? Sure. Equality? Sure. I had to trade in my Lexus for a used Toyota Civic? Go fuck yourself.
Plus, the irony of pro-Obama supporters protesting the bankers Obama bailed out. And was finacially supported by during his campaign. And will bail out again if need be. So, it's like the protesters are protesting against themselves.

The strategy for the Freedom Riders back in 1961 was to ride through the deep south and to attempt to attract publicity while getting their heads bashed in.
