The new Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic, is fucking awesome.

I'm all about Borderlands these days. I really liked Borderlands... played all the way through it once. Got a little help online with the tougher bosses. The final boss was disappointingly underwhelming. There was a little bit lacking in the game (especially for multiuplayer), which I'm sure the #2 will take care of and end up being fantastic, but really, the game was just.... fun.
DIII... I would love to have been playing this one already. They're just taking way too long and I'm starting to loose interest. SWTOR has me hooked, so without enough time to play as many games as I'd like to, Star Wars will prolly end up winning.
Maybe tomorrow!

Bah. Bwah?
MMOs owe me too much time since I got caught in the great Evercrack wave of 2000. Well, they've gotten better. I spent some time on EQ, and even more on EQ2. While SWTOR is 'just another MMO', its come a long way and is so much more fun now. And they figured a bunch of stuff out, for example: you can just send your companions out to gather crafting resources while you're doing quests. Who want to sit there and gather anyways? You get a spaceship to do space combat missions in All the quest givers are voice-acted The game is very Star Wars (the music is unbelievable, so's the scenerey) And Mary Sue Jedi's need to be killed on sight. I found The Mary Sue, but I'm not sure what you're referring to as "her Jedi's"... Wait... Isn't the plural of Jedi just Jedi?

holy hell! I didn't know it was out yet. I've been tentatively waiting for this for some time. I shall give it a whirl since you gave it a thumbs up. If you like MMO's, but not necessarily Star Wars, then you're gonna love it.If you like Star Wars, but not necessarily MMO's, then you're gonna love it. Its a great MMO, and its very Star Warsy.
Fortunately for me, I like both Star Wars and MMO's...

I like Star Wars and I like MMO's. It'll be worth your time.
I have tried my hand at a number of MMO's and only really gotten into one of them. Which one?
However, that is more due to the fact that I am quite certain I have adult ADD...I can't sit and do one thing for too long. There'll prolly only be one issue for you: You're gonna hafta to do a lot of running in the beginning. The zones are big, you have to run out to the taxi ports to unlock them before you can use them, and you don't get your sprint until level 15. That is the only thing about the game that I haven't liked. Granted, you can have your companion do some gathering or crafting while you're waiting for your guy to auto-run to the other side of the map.
Also, I do enjoy Star Wars and have watched it numerous times, but I'm no fanboy or anything (I don't give a fuck who shot first). It was Han.
That said, it looks like a fucking killer game so I will be giving it the old college try. It'll be worth it... let us know how you like it (or if you need any tips).

I would get sick of the force users (specifically the Jedi) being an order of magnitude better than non-force users in the films and the RPG. Oh, well, they're not! If anything, the Sith are more powerful. They've done a good job of balancing the game. The Trooper is actually really damn powerful as far as DD goes. The Sniper class can hide behind cover. The Jedi are pretty limited, at least in the beginning.
Mary Sue is a term for perfect characters who seems to gain powers on demand (the EU is rife with this). Jedi, to me seem holier than thou 'lawful stupids' who stamped out other force traditions through out the 20,000 yrs of modern history. It would be great if this was not the case is SWOTOR. I feel ya. They certainly didn't screw this one up. As AE pointed out, almost everyone has joined the dark side (not me), so being a Jedi doesn't have that Mary Sue feel to it.
Abe: just realised that I'm ranting. I did not think Star Wars meant so much to me, lol. Drop that pussy and bring back the Boba Fett avatar, for fucks sake.

L50 Holy shit... did you get in on the beta, or something?
Trooper Vanguard My Tooper is a Commando, but I'm only, like, level 13 or so. I have a Jedi Knight that's 21, iirc. I like, with the Trooper, not having to run up on every enemy I'm gonna fight... standing back and going 'pew pew pew' has its advantages. What crew skills did you pick? I have Scavaging and Cybertech and they seem to work well together.
Much fun. Indeed. What server are you on?

I was on Beta, but all chars were deleted. Ah, well I bet that still helped you level faster this time around.
I don't do xmas and my GF was out of the country... and voila! A L50 char! Well done, sir! I did get to level 10 at my first sitting in the game - which was, like, 6 hours straight
Vanguards are tanks, so we tend to have to run up - but I made my choice myself. (Vanguards have a couple of 'gap closing' abilities too.) Do they have any healing? I suppose I could just look that up...
Arch, Scav and Slice. But if you join a nice guild there is little reason to choose one skill over another, other than to have a skill the guild lacks. Crafting costs a bit to level, though. But Slicing makes a lot of cash - so it balances. I did want my crew skills to compliment each other, so that I was gathering stuff I could craft with, but yeah, now that my guildmates are getting up there, its really easy to have someone craft something for you.
The Progenitor. Ops next week when my new PC arrives... Oh, I'm on a different server.

I think he's fat-looking. I'm trying to tell you that nobody can judge his health just by looking. The dude ran out of breath and broke a sweat from yelling at a webcam... that's not healthy.

Nope. Commando has healing/dps - Vanguard has tanking/dps. Yeah, now I remember my rational: Since they both wear the heavy armor, the defense increase from the Vanguard's defense abilities would be somewhat marginal, at least compared to the benefit of having the healing abilities of the Commando (assume you're not going strictly tanking).

What kind of PC specs does it require? quote: Its not too bad. The graphics aren't really ridiculous, like Battlefield 3, or anything. But they're difinately good, and spot on Star Wars looking (which is more important to me). If you can run it, you should give it a shot.

Thinking about playing someone who has the opportunity to kill goody two shoes Jedi is sounding better and better.
Ah... so a Mary Sue Sith Those are KOS for me I made a dark side guy... the story was way crazier. For the good side, you can just get your orders from the commanders and do the obviously right thing (well not always so obvious, e.g. do you return the stolen med packs to the republic or let the lady who stole them for the injured orphans use them? -tangent here: The story lines are great in this game in that your decisions actually matter and affect it. After you find those stolen med packs back, you literally have two people you can turn that quest in to - the rebuplic guy or the orphan lady. And that changes what happens next in the story. Anyways, for the dark side, Guy A says lets go fuck over Guy B, Guy B says 'no, you should join me and we'll fuck him over'. Then Guy C says, you should join me and then we'll take out Guy A's boss and secure all the power! I'm all: I don't know what to do and I can't trust any of these guys. Its cool but a little to complicated to be a content tourist and just breeze through it. (not a bad thing unless that's your bag).

What other MMO's that initially came out with monthly fees are now free to play? Dungeons and Dragons Online. Everquest 1 & 2. DC Universe Online. etc.
