I think a refresher should be necessary in order to keep your ability to vote, hold office, and receive a tax break
In the United States, you don't have the "ability" to vote, you have the right to vote. I think that's pretty important, and among the two of us, I'm the one who thinks like a conservative, because I'm the one who believes we should preserve the rights afforded to us by the Constitution.
You, on the other hand, are some kind of radical who wants to fundamentally change what it means to be an American.

Show me how or STFU.
Show you how what? I don't understand. Do you not know your own position, the position you've just articulated in this thread?
I don't understand how you can say "I don't want to fundamentally change what it means to be an American, but hey, I just had a great idea - let's fundamentally change what it means to be an American!"

Re: Rights of a Citizen
It allows for unlimited detainment of anyone suspected of being a terrorist.
Er, well, technically it does, but it does so in the same way that the Lily Ledbetter Act does - by not being a law against unlimited detention of anyone suspected of being a terrorist.
The NDAA you're referring to is not, actually, a law allowing Obama to detain anyone he wants. It's simply one of a very large number of laws that doesn't specifically bar him from doing so.

Re: Rights of a Citizen
I thoguht the right of habeas corpus denied this
Right, and the Constitution prevents Congress from restricting the right of writ of habeas corpus. So a defense authorization could not restrict it. So the NDAA can't do what everyone has been saying it does.
so anything that as tame as what you're suggesting would either have to be combined with something else denying habeas to warrant the political storm that's been brewing since this provision came to notice.
Surely this isn't your first experience with an entirely manufactured controversy?

Re: Rights and responsibilities
Everyone getting a say gave the yanks this guy..
Give us a little more credit, friend:
quote:
2000 popular vote totals
Bush: 50,456,002
Gore: 50,999,897
http://en.wikipedia.org/...tates_presidential_election,_2000
People always seem to forget that the 2000 presidential election was decided not by the people, but by a wide-ranging "open conspiracy"to disenfranchise about 400,000 Americans. Of course, if something more than one-fourth of Americans had actually seen fit to participate in that election, we might have had different results. But the notion that the problem, here, is that too many people vote is naked idiocy. Take a fucking class or something, people.

Re: Civics Side note:
Cowards, all. In a just world every Confederate traitor would lie in an unmarked grave, these two monsters especially. The existence of even a single Confederate war memorial is an affront to any decent person.
