I ate an industrial sized Thai curry for lunch and am currently a bit drunk at work (It's Friday, it's practically obligatory). I just thought both were relevant to your earlier exchange with Frako.

Re: Parody Logic
I pay for my insurance out of my paycheck.
With universal healthcare you would pay for insurance through your taxes.
Your point is?
My point was that I pay for my healthcare...
Do you have a point or are you content in being pointless?

So do I. But "free at the point of delivery" doesn't mean it's "free". We have national insurance contributions.
If I get a new bike through my bike insurance after having one stolen it's technically "free at the point of delivery" but I still pay insurance premiums.

As do people under universal healthcare.
Do you have a point or are you content in being pointless?
If you would stop letting your disdain for me from clouding your ability to reason you would see that my post in relation to the conversation makes my point quite self evident.
Strag evidently sees my point, why don't you.
Still trying to figure out why you claim you pay for your insurance and those that ahve universal healthcare do not.
Why does a payment to an insurance company count, but payment to the government to provide the same services not count?
Please explain the point of this reasoning.

I don't claim that.

Re: Parody Logic
The whole logic of your argument in relation to this thread escapes me.
Your statement that you pay for your insurance through your paycheck evidently has no point in this discussion. As I originally asked what is the point of that comment. Obviously a few of us have misinterpreted your intentions and do not understand the point of that comment.
Do you feel like explaining the point you are trying to make or are you just going to throw bombs?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this. Wouldn't an indicator of research money spent be results like my (admittedly not ironclad) link? What is it about the US that would be affecting research and medical costs more than in other countries?

Re: Parody Logic
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this.
I've seen it in universal healthcare discussions where people will say something like:
"Look at this country, they have socialized healthcare and the costs is waaay lower than in the U.S. So we should socialize ours to reduce the cost!"
So yeah, but that's a whole 'nother country. I don't think it considers all the right factors. It just seems to me that we do a lot of medical research here at hospitals that also provide care. That's gotta drive up the cost.
If those other countries have hospitals that aren't also research facilities, then that would play a part in their cost being lower.
This isn't something I've really spent time delving into tho, I could be way off base. It was something I was jst saying in reply to our healthcare being "unjustifiable expensive".

Much of the medical research being done is underwritten by pharmaceutical companies who are looking for the next wonder drug. That research wouldn't drive up the cost of the healthcare, except in so far as it raises the cost of medication.

I hope you go for a nice jog tomorrow. Disgusting.

You're just being silly now. Under my plan the older people would be as healthy as anyone else.

Why? Please provide the reasons that its "gotta drive up costs". Also, where do you get you information that "a lot of medical research here at hospitals that also provide care". I am sure there is medical research done in hospitals, but a lot is also done in universities. Do you have any research or figures to back up your claims? I have serious concerns that your beliefs conflict with reality.
