Re: Fool me once
Hi NoNukes,
If this is indeed Foreveryoung's strategy, I find his execution of said strategy difficult to fathom. Rather than electing to live in his own private Idaho, Foreveryoung has gone out of his way to ask questions in a debate forum, where the rather predictable result is that some, if not all of the answers he gets will require stuffing more sand about the eyes and ears.
Obviously I can't speak for foreveryoung, but if my experience is any guide, I would guess that he is only semi-concious of these problems with scripture, whilst maintaining the day-to-day belief that the Bible is inerrant. Cognitive dissonance? Yes please!
Exactly what types of answers did fy expect here? What does he mean when he says he wants to discuss science?
Yeah, I'm equally perplexed by that. perhaps I have got him/her wrong, but it seems like a classic case of Fundie arrogance. They assume that forums like these will be an easy win. After all, the Bible is perfect. How can they fail?
I find it hard to believe though that anyone can believe that without some subconscious doubts creeping in.There are always going to be cracks in their anti-reality armour. It's the awareness of these that forces them to react by retreating into an extreme position like the "perfect" Bible. It's ridiculous, but at least it frees them form the terrifying burden of having to think.
I disagree. Neither one of the two creation accounts is the least bit plausible as a literal description of the origin of life on this planet. Pointing out that the accounts disagree is merely a convenient way to argue against a literalist on his home court.
True. Perhaps my example was not the best choice.
The essentials are that the man betrayed Jesus and then killed himself.
This is not right. Judas kills himself in Matthew. In Acts, he falls and his guts burst open. It's not suicide in Acts. The stories are totally different. Like you say above though, it's a convenient way of pointing out the discrepancies in a "literal and true" approach to the text.

Life is like a box of chocolates, now leave this site
It is obvious that I am quite despised here. My point of view obviously rubs people the wrong way on this site. I could have an IQ of 145 and people would still consider me "forrest gump" mentality because of my views. I do not want to stay in a place where my presence is not welcome.
Thank heavens you started this thread. I had to be away from this site for a few weeks but, I wanted to start a thread about trying to get you to leave this site. I was worried that in my absense the subject wouldn't be brought up. Thankfully you had enough self-awareness to realize it's time for you to go. Scary that we were both thinking the same thing. I guess your inner self hate is equal to the outer hate I have for you.
Honestly I don't know why anyone is sugar coating it for you? I for one totally despise you. It keeps me awake at night sometimes, wondering how someone like you can believe what you believe without evidence and then have the balls to type it out here into words on this forum all willy nilly. Seriously, the nerve of you. To believe it is one thing, but to type it out is just uncalled for.
I would not consider you Forrest Gump though, because I highly doubt you have a successful shrimping company or that you can run as well as that man. You'd be more along the lines of Ned Flanders, I think. Because I imagine you're the kind of guy who can rock a sweet mustache.
In closing, beat it.

Re: Fool me once
But no-one ever claimed that both of those volumes were divinely inspired by the same god as part of his plan for humanity.
I will if you like, I hear that there's good money in starting a religion.
Whether or not anyone has, I don't see that it invalidates my point. It is true that claims of divine authorship for the bible are undermined by the fact that Genesis gets stuff wrong; but then I never said otherwise. My point is that it is not true that ordinary claims for the historical accuracy of the gospels are undermined by the same observation.

If you laughed then I have to send an invoice to Percy to pay me for that. Like I said before, the laughes aren't coming for free anymore so, lets make with a check, EvC.

What proportion of last year's revenue would you like?
Maybe you need a sponsor. All your messages could begin with, "And now, Onifre, brought to you by..." It would be followed by one of those commercial videos that can't be skipped, like on Hulu. Your income would be proportional to the number of cheers/jeers you get. Looking at your member rating now...hmmmm...maybe hold off on that Mediterranean cruise right now, at least as a passenger.

I'll let you keep all of that. We're working on 2012, or whenever your fiscal year starts/ends.

Not a bad idea. I'll run it through my editting dept and see if the boys can come up with something. After their morning exercise of course. Can't work the 14 hours I demand from them without an intense 3 hour workout, you know.
Looking at your member rating now...hmmmm...maybe hold off on that Mediterranean cruise right now, at least as a passenger.
It's all under control. I'm lowering it to open up my revenue possibilities. We max out at 10 so, the further I get a way from that, the more I'll make on the way up.
But you'll get a detailed letter from my Jewish lawyers.

Foreveryoung: Would you be interested in defending this particular proposition of yours (i.e., "Without a literal bible, christianity is absolutely worthless") in the thread Tentativity and The Bible? I would very much like to know your detailed reasoning behind this sort of black-and-white extremism.

Whoa whoa whoa there buddy boy. I never said I laughed, just that what you had said was mildly amusing. And given the current state of Dark Onifre, I'm grading on a very steep curve. You've got a ways to go before you elicit so much as an "lol" from me, let alone a verbal laugh.
Like I said before, the laughes aren't coming for free anymore so, lets make with a check, EvC.
Perhaps you've misunderstood because, like I said, "dance, monkey, dance" indicates that you are EvC's personal grinder monkey here for our amusement. If you would like payment, perhaps it could be in the form of peanuts or bananas.

You said it was funny. Don't get all cunty, lady.

I could turn it on hardcore if I needed too. I'd be at a 10 rating in no time. Once Percy and I work out a price you'll see me rise, bucko.

So, just curious, what explains this darker Onifre. Trouble at home? Exploring an edgier comedic persona? Drugs? Boredom?
