ForEverYoung sent me this PM as a response to my warning in Message 151:
And yet, as of 04 Aug 2012, foreveryoung is still here.foreveryoung writes: Go ahead and get rid of me you hateful little hypocrite. ForEverYoung is now forever gone. Just like in The Pirates of Penzance, as the Constabulary keeps pronouncing that they will go off and die "in combat gory" to subdue the pirates, and the Major General keeps exclaiming, "But they're still here!" foreveryoung promised to leave forever, brushing the dust of this forum from his sandals (if he ever read the New Testament, he should recognize that reference). And yet he's still here! OFF TOPIC AdminPD Edited by dwise1, : added qs Edited by AdminPD, : Warning

I found this quote to be interesting.
From: Harry Reid: Mitt's secrecy 'has nothing to do with me'
Pelosi's backing Reid, Reid's chief of staff is calling the Romney people "cowards," the Romney people are saying it's all Obama's fault, the guy whose candidate has spent an entire year claiming Obama went on something called an "apology tour" is calling Reid a "dirty liar" and, in the middle of it all ... ... is Mitt Romney, who still thinks all of this is better than what would happen if he showed America how much money he made and how much tax he paid on it.
Anybody who didn't think that Obama was going to be fodder for desperate conservatives to re-re-re-re-re-use the fear card is a bit naive. But elections are choices between more than just This-Guy and Not-This-Guy, they are choices between This-Guy and THAT-Guy. Republicans have BAD canidates! Think about ANY ONE of the clowns who ran in the GOP primary running a national campaign right now. Also, think about the future choices. Democratic pickups tend to be higher quality statesmen/women while Republicans in 2010 replaced old guard pansie Democrats with hard line right wing freaks. Their pool of future political talent consists of impressive guys like deadbeat dad Joe Walsh and complete nutjob Allen West. Citizens United is life support for a dying party hanging onto a dying share of the electorate. Progressives need to be FAR less worried about how it is going to empower Republicans to win that its potential to corrupt Democrats by its siren song.BUT if objects for gratitude and admiration are our desire, do they not present themselves every hour to our eyes? Do we not see a fair creation prepared to receive us the instant we are born --a world furnished to our hands, that cost us nothing? Is it we that light up the sun; that pour down the rain; and fill the earth with abundance? Whether we sleep or wake, the vast machinery of the universe still goes on. Are these things, and the blessings they indicate in future, nothing to, us? Can our gross feelings be excited by no other subjects than tragedy and suicide? Or is the gloomy pride of man become so intolerable, that nothing can flatter it but a sacrifice of the Creator? --Thomas Paine |

Has it already been commented on in this thread how sad it is that much of the political discussion is not about the impact of proposed policy on the nation and the world, but of the distortions from each side on the electorate?

Can you really blame them, though? Most of the public don't spend the time to look up each candidate's info. The populous at large loves sound bites.
I used to think that the ideal campaign is one where there's no negative ads. But as my understanding of how our system of democracy evolves, I've begun to have a great distrust in the democratic system. I really would love to see a clean election campaign. I really would. But right now, because of the nature of the American people, a clean campaign is the same as suicide. I dare say that 80% of my friends, both liberals and conservatives, know jack shit about current events, let alone past events. They don't ever watch the news. They have very strong political opinions, but they don't know jack shit about anything. Just the other day, my lesbian friend, a conservative, said to me Obama has taken so many of our rights away she doesn't even know where to start. So, I politely asked her to name me one right that's been taken away from us by Obama. She just stared at me and then went back to saying how many rights we have lost. Her 5 year partner, on the other hand, is a liberal. She can't even tell me how many senators there are! She also believes Obamacare will be forcing her to quit her employer's insurance.

I wouldn't even know where to start on this BS, but this seems to be the norm for many Americans. ABE...

Romney will announce his running-mate in Virginia on Saturday. Here's a run-down of some of the more likely candidates
Al Capone Pro: Makes Romney look like Mr Clean by comparison.
Con: Dead.
One of Mitt Romney's dressage horses Pro: Guaranteed not to make any gaffes.
Con: May reinforce Romney's "out-of-touch" image by reminding the voters that most people don't own dressage horses.
A stryrofoam cup Pro: Can be used to hold coffee.
Con:: Risks producing a "bottom-heavy" ticket. As one Republican insider explained: "We're worried that Mitt may be overshadowed by the cup's charm, warmth, and charisma."
Darth Vader Pro: Could kill Biden in the debates. Literally.
Con: Invites unflattering comparisons between Mitt Romney and the Emperor Palpatine.
A chicken sandwich Pro: Apparently the only thing that can energize the Republican base nowadays.
Con: Viewed by many as a single-issue candidate. As one insider commented: "We know the sandwich hates gays, but what are its views on fiscal policy?"
Sarah Palin Haha, just kidding.

You're saying that political debate seeks a level appropriate to the electorate, and I agree, but in my mind anyone descending to this level doesn't deserve the job. What I find shocking is the lack of outrage at, for example, Romney's distortion ads using Obama's "You didn't build that" sound bite. That's not framing the issue to your own advantage - that's lying.
Fans of old movies might remember the scene in Casablanca where Captain Renault closes Rick's casino announcing, "I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!" I'm essentially doing the same thing: "I'm shocked, shocked to find that political-style campaigning is going on in here." Call me naive, but it looks likely I'll sit out another presidential election. Participating by voting would make be feel slimy. --Percy

Hi Buz
OTO, your Muslo-commie stealth one who has yet to prove he went to Columbia and has forged a fake birth cirtificate ... The farce is strong in this one ... Buz this is flat out delusional, and it is sad that you need made up garbage to characterize people.
... has a double barreled 10 gauge political shot gun aimed at him. Which, curiously, is not worse than a single barrel, if accurately aimed ... ... but I agree that they are very similar, that Ryan does not bring anything to the fight that is new, so he is just an under-slung second barrel. He will only please those that would vote for Mitt anyway, and may actually alienate some.
So the campaigns now begin in earnest.

Yes, it's a fine question.
Ryan will mobilize the vote ... among people who want to raise taxes on the poor, turn medicare into a voucher system, and make a zygote legally a person from the moment of fertilization. Also, Ryan will mobilize the vote ... among people who don't want to raise taxes on the poor, don't want to turn medicare into a voucher system, and don't want to make a zygote legally a person from the moment of fertilization. My bet is that that it's that last one that will really screw him. He'll get out the vote all right.
