Fortunately
Fortunately the US is large enough to withstand almost anything any President can do.
The US survived Reagan, Bush senior, Bush junior.
The Presidency in the US is really not so important that anyone in that position can cause really major catastrophic disasters.

Re: Fortunately
Well, in the US power is pretty much distributed so that no one body or person has full control. Even Congress, which holds most of the power, is limited by there being two different houses, the fact that a President must sign legislation and by the Supreme Court.
In the US it is easier to kill legislation than to pass legislation.

Re: The Roots of the Subprime Mortgage Mess Have Clinton All Over Them
The elections are OURS and therefore WE should pay for them with robust public financing and strong limits on outside influence.
Amen Brother, preach the Gospel. Free Speech and Purchased Speech are not synonymous.

Aw, tough.
Sorry but you get no sympathy from me, the media problem you mention only exists because Conservatives (those following the Reagan coup) created that situation. It's not my fault they were so brainless.
Had the post coup Conservative not deregulated media, not repealed the "Fairness Doctrine", the situation you fear would not exist.
As a life long Republican I can only cry as the Grand Old Party continues the move towards a totally Fascist Theocratic party.

Reading list.
Have you actually ever read anything Marx wrote, for example "On the Jewish Question?" or any of the three volumes of "Das Kapital"?

Conservative comments.
I thought a few comments from Republicans might help you.
quote:
"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration."
"Now, this means that our government, national and State, must be freed from the sinister influence or control of special interests. Exactly as the special interests of cotton and slavery threatened our political integrity before the Civil War, so now the great special business interests too often control and corrupt the men and methods of government for their own profit. We must drive the special interests out of politics. That is one of our tasks to-day. Every special interest is entitled to justice -full, fair, and complete -and, now, mind you, if there were any attempt by mob-violence to plunder and work harm to the special interest, whatever it may be, and I most dislike and the wealthy man, whomsoever he may be, for whom I have the greatest contempt, I would fight for him, and you would if you were worth your salt. He should have justice. For every special interest is entitled to justice, but not one is entitled to a vote in Congress, to a voice on the bench, or to representation in any public office. The Constitution guarantees protections to property, and we must make that promise good But it does not give the right of suffrage to any corporation. The true friend of property, the true conservative, is he who insists that property shall be the servant and not the master of the commonwealth; who insists that the creature of man's making shall be the servant and not the master of the man who made it. The citizens of the United States must effectively control the mighty commercial forces which they have themselves called into being."
"There can be no effective control of corporations while their political activity remains. To put an end to it will be neither a short nor an easy task, but it can be done."
"We must have complete and effective publicity of corporate affairs, so that people may know beyond peradventure whether the corporations obey the law and whether their management entitles them to the confidence of the public. It is necessary that laws should be passed to prohibit the use of corporate funds directly or indirectly for political purposes; it is still more necessary that such laws should be thoroughly enforced. Corporate expenditures for political purposes, and specially such expenditures by public-service corporations, have supplied one of the principal sources of corruption in our political affairs."
Theodore Roosevelt
I hope this help you move away from the fascist current GOP and back towards the morality of the Grand Old Party.

The avoidance syndrome
I'm sorry you decided to run away instead of trying to learn but that is typical of Creationists and the current Christian Right. They live in a fantasy world and try to avoid dealing with truth or reality by creating avoidance schools, avoidance TV networks, avoidance news sources, avoidance browsers...
But reality exists no matter how much you wished it otherwise.

Hidalgo County
One thing I like about this area is that it is surprisingly liberal and in the 2008 election went almost 3 to 1 for Obama.

Not all businesses are small but business should pay taxes sufficient to finance the benefits that they receive from government programs.

It is not just a matter of "fair share". US taxes must get much higher if we want to return to being a first world nation.
It is also time that US Citizens learned just how much they expect from government and that the bill will get paid, one way or another.

There is a good chance the US will continue moving towards Fascism
It's certainly possible that the US will continue the move towards Fascism that began with the Christian Right Coup and takeover of the Republican party that elected Ronald Reagan. Fortunately I'm old and so will most likely not suffer too much from the New World Order that would be instituted by the modern Republicans.
In the long run it's probably healthy since the total collapse of a US middle class that will result may lead to a reemergence of a Progressive party.
