I still remember when Obama had just gotten into office. Gun prices skyrocketed because gun shop owners were telling everyone Obama was going to ban guns. People went and spent their life savings to buy as many guns and ammo as they could.
I know this one guy who currently lives on federal help because of a degenerative backbone problem he started developing a couple years ago. He can't work and he is coming very close to being wheel chair bound. Anyway, 4 years ago he literally spent his life's savings to buy guns and ammo. Nowadays, whenever I see him I have to bite my tongue to not ask the question "how are your guns doing?"
He is now very liberal and very supportive of Obama and the health care reform. It's the only thing keeping him from financial ruin.
My theory on this has always been everyone is a god fearing republican until he realizes at some point in his life he needs help.

I still think you guys are over-optimistic. Most Americans are dumbasses. It's not even up for debate. It's a fact of life. Most people are clearly dumbasses who will believe every lie the republicans throw at them. Look at the latest lie about Obama making gas prices go up high. All the American people have to do is think "well, gee, whiz, I wonder if one man really has that much power...?"
If Obama will win this election, it will be a damn close one. Too close for my comfort.

What if, when you fill out your tax form and get the amount you owe or have already been deducted for, reaching the total tax obligation to the government, you then are asked to fill out a dispersal form directing which agencies get your tax money?
Some would 100% education. Some 100% military. Some 100% healthcare. Some 80% social security, 20% highways. Some might divvy it up equally.
Imagine the horrendous onslaught of TV commercials then! Wow: "Please send your tax dollar to fight cancer!" "Please save our local police forces!" "Put your wave-of-the-future dollar where it counts: drones!"...and so on.
Damn - You've just given many a reason not to vote for Obama.
