As usually, with these "omg look what they said" things, I'm just left wondering what they actually really said....

Re: Immaculate preconception
Research is easy.
Letting others do it for you is easier.
Or how about the text of the act itself.
Yeah, that's what I was wondering about. It doesn't "states 'pregnancy begins two weeks before conception'". But we already know you don't really have to be that accurate when you're bashing the Right.

Re: Immaculate preconception
There might still be an issue. I haven't read the bill.
Well, isn't it written by a Pro-Life person? If they're trying to push back against abortion then it makes sense that they'd write it biased against abortion.
What it does is criminalize an abortion after 20 weeks gestational age. Gestation age is an actual term from obstetrics. It doesn't matter if you draw the line at 20 weeks since gestation, or 18 weeks since conception. The line is drawn where the line is drawn and that's what should be criticised.
I just think its hilarious that poeple jump on the "omg look what they said" bandwagon with such partison bias. They might as well be making fun of all of obstetrics for "stating" that women are pregnant 2 weeks before conception because of the way they define gestation age.
However, when using this method, one calculates the gestational time as being longer, 10 months, than otherwise - to compensate. If we're going to use this to determine where an abortion is legal - we should push those dates forward too. If this isn't being done, then we can rightly criticize those that authored, sponsored and voted for the bill.
Sure, I don't like the bill either. I just think its funny that people played the "they're so stupid look at this dumb thing they said" card, but since it was against a Republican, then all the leftys just jump on the bandwagon and don't even look into it. If it was being said about a Democrat, then people would've dug into it and figured out exactly what was said, looked into the background of the person who said they said otherwise, and then hung them out to dry - all the while thinking that they're skeptical and honest and unbiased.

Re: Immaculate preconception
But the quote didn't say that the bill states that pregnancy begins two weeks before conception. It says that it deems a woman pregnant two weeks before conception
I was going by the title of the source article:
http://www.examiner.com/...egins-two-weeks-before-conception
quote:
New law in Arizona states 'pregnancy begins two weeks before conception'
They even use apostrophies as if they were quoting the law.
Gestational age means the age of the unborn child as calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period of the pregnant woman.
This means that in some (indeed most) cases the fetus will be legally deemed to have existed before it was actually conceived.
Yeah, but its a normal term in obstetrics. Are we to be laughing at that entire field of medicine because they don't even know when and how babies are conceived?
Gawsh! They're so stupid!
quote:
On the first visit to her obstetrician or midwife, the pregnant woman is asked to carry out the antenatal record, which constitutes a medical history and physical examination. On subsequent visits, the gestational age (GA) is rechecked with each visit. source

Re: An interview with a LEGEND
I thought this part was really funny!
http://youtu.be/0-Tzd_01koU?t=11m8s
For those who won't watch, they were checking out the new Call of Duty game and who the "bad guys" are. One of the last ones was fighting terrorists in the middle east and some sensitive folks got a little pissy about it. The latest ones is in the future and we're back to fighting russians. Oni's all: "Yeah, lets go back to killing white people so nobody get offended" I lol'd.
I was dissappointed that you don't game more. Especially admitting that you can't handle the first person shooters. Granted, it takes a lot of time to get good enough to survive and I suppose you have better things to do.

not hilarious but relevant

The truth of our faith becomes a matter of ridicule among the infidels if any Catholic, not gifted with the necessary scientific learning, presents as dogma what scientific scrutiny shows to be false. - St. Thomas Aquinas
