Jon, please for a moment try to think not like a sports team fan and try to think about this objectively.
It's specifically the lies themselves that concern some of us about Ryan. He's lied about things that weren't beneficial at all. It's the pattern of a pathological liar. These people just lie for no reason at all except to lie. That's what worries us. I'm not saying a candidate should be perfect. And I'm not saying Obama has never lied. But there is a clear difference between lying for political gain and just lying for the hell of it. Please for a moment stop it with the sports fan mentality and try to look at this in a more objective way. Between a political liar and a pathological liar, I'd choose the political liar over the pathological liar any day. At least you know the political liar is in control of the lies he tells. The pathological liar is unpredictable and has no motive to lie. He just lies.

Please for a moment stop it with the sports fan mentality... Sports fan mentality? I've never been a sports fan, so you'll have to explain what it is you mean by this.
He's lied about things that weren't beneficial at all. I'll ask you what I asked Theo: Ever heard of a fish tale?
These people just lie for no reason at all except to lie. That's what worries us. If this is an honest example of Ryan's comfort with telling lies, then that's fine. My primary point has been in relation to Theo's claim that "This one may resonate with the American people because it is so obvious and so egregious." If this lie resonates with the American people more so than the others, then, as I said, "it is a sad fact that speaks to the gullibility of those people who are more interested in a candidate's running times than his political and economic policies." Of course, there is no reason I can see why this lie should get more attention; it is one of the tamer ones told so far. But Theo seems to think it's a big one, though I can't tell why, except that perhaps he suffers from the 'sports fan mentality' you mentioned. JonLove your enemies!

Grover Norquist on Romney:
We are not auditioning for fearless leader. We don't need a president to tell us in what direction to go. We know what direction to go. We want the Ryan budget. ... We just need a president to sign this stuff. We don't need someone to think it up or design it. The leadership now for the modern conservative movement for the next 20 years will be coming out of the House and the Senate. [...] Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become president of the United States. This is a change for Republicans: the House and Senate doing the work with the president signing bills. His job is to be captain of the team, to sign the legislation that has already been prepared. Well, that was frank. Apparently the key difference between Romney and an empty suit is his ability to sign his name. But how well will this plan go down with the voters? The idea seems to be that Romney's role would be to rubber-stamp the acts of a Republican Congress ... a group which currently has the same approval rating as leprosy.

Of course, there is no reason I can see why this lie should get more attention The marathon time 'embellishment' gets special attention because the lie is indefensible, needless, and stupid. Incidentally, most people don't try to pass off bogus fish stories as fact, and essentially nobody lies about their marathon times.Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Can't really blame him for doing this.
It turns out that you cannot actually get elected to a national office if you stick to the Republican platform. If your actually try to run on being against abortion to the point where you are willing to kill the mom, label a college education as being for elitists only despite having one yourself, and trashing half or more of the population economically, and you think clean water/air and arctic ice are luxuries for liberals, then you lose. Unfortunately Republicans must appeal to the to the wing-nuts, coal miners, and fundies to get nominated. And of course the Romney is great at making course adjustments. That's what makes him electable. If elected, Romney will have very little say in what replaces the AFA. His party hates his ideas re health care. Romney flip flops 4 times in 24 hours.
Just hours later, his campaign did an about face. Re: Romney and Obamacare | National Review
quote: In other words, they wanted to take away the protection for those with preexisting conditions and kids 26 and under. Then a few hours later, they did another about face. Romney Will Insure Pre-Existing Conditions, Aide Says
quote: But then someone notices the vague language in the latest statement by Romney. In other words, he's really not wanting to protect people with preexisting conditions. https://twitter.com/buzzfeedben/status/244977146903269377 What Romney wants to do is protect people with preexisting conditions in a continuous coverage. But if you have a preexisting condition and you want to apply for insurance, well that's tough luck. This guy is amazing.

[cynically] he applies confirmation bias he expects people to have: that they will select the part of what he says that they want to hear and ignore the rest [/cynically]
The sad thing is that it may well work on too many people. You can fool some of the people some of the time ...
