Inside the Home of the Private Romney Family
UNCOVERED: Inside the Home of the Private Romney Family
Ours is a factual story that provides a rare glimpse and insight into the real Mitt Romney. Does he really relate to the average American? As President, would he impose his beliefs on others? Is he really Christian?
When you buy a home and its contents from someone you really learn a lot about their true character, values and beliefs. And rarely does anyone have the opportunity to learn how a politician acts out of the public’s view and when they are not running for office. Well, this actually happened. When? Only a few years ago, in spring of 2009 when we bought Mitt Romney’s Park City, Utah home. His family lived in this home for about ten years. Because our deal included most of the contents, we gained a unique and unusual perspective of him and his family of which most Americans are completely unaware. What we experienced was not what we expected. Not the stereotypical actions of a millionaire and more importantly not the image most Americans have of Mitt Romney.

The Fallacy of Redistribution
From "The Fallacy of Redistribution," by Thomas Sowell
Those who talk glibly about redistribution often act as if people are just inert objects that can be placed here and there, like pieces on a chess board, to carry out some grand design. But if human beings have their own responses to government policies, then we cannot blithely assume that government policies will have the effect intended.
The history of the 20th century is full of examples of countries that set out to redistribute wealth and ended up redistributing poverty. The communist nations were a classic example, but by no means the only example.
In theory, confiscating the wealth of the more successful people ought to make the rest of the society more prosperous. But when the Soviet Union confiscated the wealth of successful farmers, food became scarce. As many people died of starvation under Stalin in the 1930s as died in Hitler's Holocaust in the 1940s.
How can that be? It is not complicated. You can only confiscate the wealth that exists at a given moment. You cannot confiscate future wealth and that future wealth is less likely to be produced when people see that it is going to be confiscated. Farmers in the Soviet Union cut back on how much time and effort they invested in growing their crops, when they realized that the government was going to take a big part of the harvest. They slaughtered and ate young farm animals that they would normally keep tending and feeding while raising them to maturity.

Re: The Fallacy of Redistribution
Food has always been scarce in the Soviet Union, even before there was a Soviet Union. Except for the Ukraine, the area's arable land is too far north to have much of a growing season.
It's not like starvation was something new that happened with Communism.
To this extent?
The dreadful famine that engulfed Ukraine, the northern Caucasus, and the lower Volga River area in 1932-1933 was the result of Joseph Stalin's policy of forced collectivization. The heaviest losses occurred in Ukraine, which had been the most productive agricultural area of the Soviet Union. Stalin was determined to crush all vestiges of Ukrainian nationalism. Thus, the famine was accompanied by a devastating purge of the Ukrainian intelligentsia and the Ukrainian Communist party itself. The famine broke the peasants' will to resist collectivization and left Ukraine politically, socially, and psychologically traumatized.
The policy of all-out collectivization instituted by Stalin in 1929 to finance industrialization had a disastrous effect on agricultural productivity. Nevertheless, in 1932 Stalin raised Ukraine's grain procurement quotas by forty-four percent. This meant that there would not be enough grain to feed the peasants, since Soviet law required that no grain from a collective farm could be given to the members of the farm until the government's quota was met. Stalin's decision and the methods used to implement it condemned millions of peasants to death by starvation. Party officials, with the aid of regular troops and secret police units, waged a merciless war of attrition against peasants who refused to give up their grain. Even indispensable seed grain was forcibly confiscated from peasant households. Any man, woman, or child caught taking even a handful of grain from a collective farm could be, and often was, executed or deported. Those who did not appear to be starving were often suspected of hoarding grain. Peasants were prevented from leaving their villages by the NKVD and a system of internal passports.
The death toll from the 1932-33 famine in Ukraine has been estimated between six million and seven million. According to a Soviet author, "Before they died, people often lost their senses and ceased to be human beings." Yet one of Stalin's lieutenants in Ukraine stated in 1933 that the famine was a great success. It showed the peasants "who is the master here. It cost millions of lives, but the collective farm system is here to stay."..

Life is too short to spend time arguing with some of the folks here.
Yesterday a poster here was actually excusing and partially-denying the Stalin famines in the USSR, even though the link I posted discussing it was from the Library of Congress and taken from internal Soviet documents. Arguing with such a poster would be a waste of time.
So I'll just post what reasonable articles I can in the name of diversity, as this thread certainly could use some.

The Love Song of AARP and Obama
The Love Song of AARP and Obama, by Kimberley A. Strassel (Wall Street Journal)
When Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan address the AARP on Friday, good manners will no doubt keep them from asking this question: How can that lobby claim to speak for American seniors given its partisan role in passing ObamaCare?
Thanks to just-released emails from the House Energy and Commerce Committee, we now know that AARP worked through 2009-10 as an extension of a Democratic White House, toiling daily to pass a health bill that slashes $716 billion from Medicare, strips seniors of choice, and sets the stage for rationing. We know that despite AARP's awareness that its seniors overwhelmingly opposed the bill, the "nonpartisan membership organization" chose to serve the president's agenda.
The 71 pages of emails show an AARP management taking orders from the White House, scripting the president's talking points, working to keep its board "in line," and pledging fealty to "the cause." Seniors deserve to know all this, as AARP seeks to present itself as neutral in this presidential election.

Time for a change...
After nearly four years of failure, is it not now time to try a different approach? As this essay points out, our foreign policy in the Middle East is a complete failure. Why should anyone expect anything different in a second Obama administration?
(And please, rather than bash me for posting it, respond to the article.)
============
Collapse of the Cairo Doctrine: The Islamic world is convulsed with an explosion of anti-Americanism by Charles Krauthammer
In the week following 9/11/12 something big happened: the collapse of the Cairo Doctrine, the centerpiece of President Obama’s foreign policy. It was to reset the very course of post-9/11 America, creating, after the (allegedly) brutal depredations of the Bush years, a profound rapprochement with the Islamic world.
...
Sovereign U.S. territory is breached and U.S. interests are burned. And what is the official response? One administration denunciation after another of a movie trailer! A request to Google to review the trailer’s presence on YouTube. And sheriff’s deputies’ midnight voluntary interview with the suspected filmmaker. This in the land of the First Amendment.
What else can Obama do? At their convention, Democrats endlessly congratulated themselves on their one foreign-policy success: killing Osama bin Laden. A week later, the Salafist flag flies over four American embassies, even as the mob chants, Obama, Obama, there are still a billion Osamas.
A foreign policy in epic collapse. And, by the way, Vladimir Putin just expelled USAID from Russia. Another thank you from another recipient of another grand Obama reset.

Re: Time for a change...
It is the lesser of two evils, agreed.
But one is proud of being a "community organizer" and a redistributionalist, while the other at least has some genuine accomplishments to his credit.

If you want to defend your position for supporting Romney I would suggest you go to another source beside the ridiculously ignorant Fox 'News' Network.
I haven't watched Fox in a long time, and I haven't watched it regularly in about 10 years.
Just another thing you're wrong about, eh?

Re: Time for a change...
In fact, when it comes to assessing qualities for the President, business experience is a negative quality. In fact, something like "community organizer" is far more an indicator of good qualifications.
I disagree completely.
The US government is the biggest "business" there is, and having "organized" folks to picket and protest on a block or two in a big city is just not a good qualification. I think this has been proven over the last nearly four years.
The "fail" is strong in this one.

And he mindlessly repeats these same points (Obama is a 'community organizer' and a redistributionalist) as well as many others.
They happen to be accurate, no matter who says them.
As for Hannity, the last time I watched him I think Colmes was still there.

Re: Time for a change...
I guess Martin Luther King, Jr was an abysmal failure since he was a community organizer. If you are religious, the best known example of a community organizer, Jesus, was also a failure .
Nice try. Our current president does not compare in any way to MLK. Nor to Jesus.
Besides, his experience as community organizer was just shy of 3 years fm 1985 to 1988. You have not even mentioned his more recent accomplishments: 12 years teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago and as a civil right attourny, 7 years as a state senator and 3 years a US senator.
He was undistinguished in all of those. But he was not a true failure until he reached the presidency. He has failed on jobs, the economy, debt levels, and illegal immigration, to name a few. OK, one more--foreign policy.
Are you better off than you were 6 trillion dollars ago?
