Which direction? Which philosophy?
By now, we have all heard the commercials...too many times. We have heard two out of three presidential debates, and we have heard our liberal and conservative (and ignorant) friends give their two cents as to who should be our next leader and why.
The House and the Senate are still up for grabs, so in this thread, as well as discussing the presidents, feel free to discuss local politics in the state in which you live.
Was The WHO right? Will the new boss be the same as the old boss?

Yo, Taz?
In the last political thread, you said
quote:
I'm afraid Obama might be on his way out...
After last nights debate, have you changed your mind?
Barack Obama takes command in second presidential debate

Shouldn't you go back to Mexico or whichever latin american country you came from since you don't like our political process so much?
I was born here...where am I supposed to go?
Seriously, though...do you really believe that "America: Love It or Leave It" stuff? Isn't free speech a cherished right? Or were you just joking with our Mr.Onifre?

Electoral Votes
regardless of whether you think that it makes any real difference whether Romney or Obama is elected, if you are a Democrat in say, Oklahoma, your vote, to a first order approximation is meaningless. Similarly, California Republicans might feel the same way about their votes.
Why did they adapt that whole Electoral Vote thing anyway? Is it a superior system over a popular vote?

Secular Religion
Both Romney and Obama have completely avoided the topic of religion.
Then they must have never visited EvC. hmmmm.wonder if a president has time for such things? And moreover, why does a guy with a hundred million dollar trust fund want to be president? Corporations are not people, any more than flipping houses is the same thing as flipping homes. Homes are people. Houses are money, and materials.
In conclusion, politicians talk of throwing money at problems to fix them. Money fixes nothing. Spirit fixes everything. (whoops, that's a religious topic)
There is simply no political hay to make here.
What you mean is that there is no religious hay. We have plenty of political hay. We see it as it comes out the other end of the donkey and the elephant.

A House Divided
Does anyone remember reading Abraham Lincolns famous House Divided Speech? In applying the principle to todays politics, one could say that consensus does not work as well as unity. One can argue that a divided ideological nation such as ourselves will not be able to achieve greatness.
To say that we, as people of intelligence, do not care is a cop out. An excuse, rather than an opportunity. Comments?

Re: A House Divided
What does it mean to be "meaningfully democratic"? My point is that we currently have division, consensus is tentative and shaky, and unity is needed.

Re: Do we need unity?
Unity is easy to achieve, all that is needed is a Monarch or Dictator. My way or the highway.
So whats the best option? Consensus? Is it possible?
Politically we have two different ideologies
and unity does not necessarily imply dictatorship. What about E Plurbis Unum?

The US is not a Democracy. It most closely resembles a Federal Republic.
What are some key differences between these two? (I could google it, but want to hear your perspective )
