Re: Inside the Home of the Private Romney Family
Check out the comments below the article. That's how you are supposed to react to this "Inside the Home" article.

Re: Inside the Home of the Private Romney Family
What's the point? That the Romenys once owned a starter house that wasn't the 12 million dollar estate that is now his beach house? A beach house with a garage that dwarfs the size of a house most regular folks live in?
How about some meat and potatoes to go with that puff piece?

Re: Mother Jones on the real Mitt Romney
Despite what Mitten says, he is in damage control.
I agree. Mitt is definitely off message again. He'd certainly rather be continuing his "it's the ecomony, stupid" message.
Still, hooah212002 has a point. Maps I've seen indicate that ignoring the 47% ought to cost Mitt a bunch of southern states, but even the poorest ones, like Mississippi are going to remain firmly in Mitt's column despite the fact that his nose thumbing is directed straight at the bulk of their populations.

Re: Moochers
What I mostly found so funny was that Romney should insult low-income republicans like that.
Why is it so surprising that Romney insulted them? Not a single one of those people was supposed to be in the room. The target audience was composed almost entirely of a bunch of people who believe every word of what Mitt said.
Most likely, you don't hang with the crowd Mitt hangs with. If you make a 10,000 bet with a buddy, your buddy likely knows you are just blowing smoke. You buy your own groceries, and you don't have to ponder about an answer when someone asks you how many houses you own.
You simply weren't supposed to hear the remarks.
On the other hand, Romney's attempts to "clarify" what he meant really are funny. If I had more respect for Mitt, I might even be offended.

Re: Moochers
Remember, many think in terms of US and THEM and they know he is not talking about US but THEM.
As well he should. His remarks regarding laziness and not taking personal responsibility apply to the minority of people in the 47%, and also apply to some people inside of the 1%. It would be pretty easy to dismiss his remarks as Not Me, but THEM no matter who you are.
In fact, Romney might argue that if it does not apply to you, then you should not be insulted.

Re: Moochers
It's not just something he said, it's something that he thinks, which is why he's analyzing the political landscape within this framework and making his plans to become President given that as a basis.
Perhaps I am way too cynical, but I think it was something he said that simply because it was appropriate in the circumstance. I don't believe that he intended to be stuck with what anyone can see is an extremely risky position.
Romney as demonstrated that he can say anything, anytime, anywhere. I'm sure that he would have denied saying those things about the 47 per cent. And he would have gotten away with it too if it had not been for those pesky kids with the video.

Journalism at its finest.
I used to commute to DC everyday from the Northern VA and on most commuting days I read the Examiner on the way to work. I think it is fair to note that the editorial stuff in the paper was also presented with a hard right wing nut slant.
I did like the puzzles in the Examiner better than the ones in the Post.
Of course it is unfair to judge this article on such a basis. Let me point to just one objectionable portion of the article.
Chapter X Obama brings Chicago politics to Washington.
quote:
Chicago's 2.7 million residents make up only about 21 percent of the state of Illinois' population of nearly 13 million. Yet the city and its suburbs have accounted for 84 percent of the state's public corruption convictions in federal courts since 1976, according to a study released earlier this year by the University of Illinois at Chicago.
That's right. The crime in Chicago tells you something important you ought to know about Obama; it is a link in proving that Obama himself is corrupt. At least that is the Examiner's take on things.

Re: Journalism at its finest.
It's a great paper, isn't it? I mean, if it's raining and you need to keep dry during the quick dash to your bus stop.
Yes, it gets the job done. The free version of the Examiner also makes great caulk to keep the wind out of your cardboard house if you are sleeping on the street.

Lefties and Righties.
For some of us, next week is the deadline for at least some opportunities to register to vote. There is a handy link in my signature to see your state's registration requirement. Don't be complacent or forlorn about your candidates chances. Please register to vote next week.
And keeping with the one man one vote principle championed in the Republican party platform, and put into practice in the many attempts to discourage registered minorities and elderly people from voting:
"Blue" voting day is November 6, this year. Red voting day is November 8.

It's not too late to register to vote. State Registration Deadlines

Summary, Take a family member to the polls...
I'm voting tomorrow. In most states, the deadline for conventional registration is past, but in many of those states, you can still vote using some kind of early/absentee voting/registration process.
Some people still don't believe it even matters who gets elected. After watching the debate yesterday, I find that simply cannot accept that position. It was my belief last election that the economy would get worse no matter who was elected, and it is my belief that the economy will improve this time no matter who gets elected. But there are other decisions that are likely to be made in the upcoming term for which your choice will matter. What will happen to the affordable care act? Who gets to appoint the possible replacement for an aging Supreme Court judge (Scalia, Kennedy, Breyer and Ginsburg are each well above 70)?
We're still recovering from damage that neo-cons did to this country. Vote now, and then get ready to vote again in two years for a Congressman or two.

Well, you may still have time to register to vote. Even North Carolinians can still register for early voting. State Registration Deadlines
