Of course it wasn't funny. That's the point. The conversation was between me and him, not me and you. A conversation that you chose to have in a public forum. A conversation in which you asked rhetorical questions to the rest of us. And if you have another such 'personal conversation', I'll call you on it again if I so choose.
Funny you should say this, because at the moment I've no black friends. The black friends I told you about have all moved on and we haven't talked for at least a year. No surprise there.Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Romney came off as a jackass, as usual. I agree. But coming off as jackass is winning in some circles. Mittens also came across as an idiot, thanks to some actual zingers from Obama:
"This isn't a game of battleship.""We also have fewer horses and bayonets." "We have aircraft carriers, which actually have airplanes land on them, and ships that go underwater called nuclear submarines." Romney came across as absolutely clueless with regard to the military - his version of "STRONG MILITARY, RAR" is apparently "THROW MONEY AT IT," which is particularly ironic from the asshat who tries to center his campaign around lowering the national debt.
The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it. - Francis Bacon "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers A world that can be explained even with bad reasons is a familiar world. But, on the other hand, in a universe suddenly divested of illusions and lights, man feels an alien, a stranger. His exile is without remedy since he is deprived of the memory of a lost home or the hope of a promised land. This divorce between man and his life, the actor and his setting, is properly the feeling of absurdity. — Albert Camus "...the pious hope that by combining numerous little turds ofvariously tainted data, one can obtain a valuable result; but in fact, the outcome is merely a larger than average pile of shit." Reminds me of how Kennedy used the "Missile Gap" argument against Eisenhower. Kennedy argued that the difference between the number of nuclear armed US missiles and USSR missiles was putting the US at risk, and that this occurred during Eisenhower's time in office. Of course, no one stopped to ask if more missiles made us safer. Romney, like many other current Republicans, seems to be a victim of the neocon echo chamber. Arguments and policies are not judged by their practical or pragmatic effects, but rather on their adherence to neocon ideology. If the Republicans continue on this path then they will lose more and more votes over time. At some point they have to face reality, hopefully sooner than later. Edited by Taq, : No reason given.

Yep. but the problem is the term conservative is one in which they cling to the old ways. Fundamentalist, preserve things as they are.
Facts are irrelevant. Progressive thinking a sin. Romney is not a conservative. He is what ever is required to win at what ever cost. Which is why his own party has disdain for him. I will be happy when the Grand Ol Party goes the way of the Dodo bird. "You were not there for the beginning. You will not be there for the end. The few who believe this have no idea what our naval shipbuilding strategy is. More ships do not necessarily make a better navy. Fully manned, adequately supplied and properly trained ships make a better navy. The problem is we barely have the funding to fully man and supply the ships we currently have. Having 313 ships is useless if we don't have the proper manning and maintenance support for them. BTW, we are still building ships and we are up to 285 ships from 279 ships during George Bush's administration. Romney's remarks were ridiculous. We are building aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines and destroyers as we speak. However, it's not just about numbers, its about efficiency and matching mission needs with required assets and capabilities. More ships do not necessarily make a better navy. It's pretty easy to convince yourself otherwise if you are a tattoo parlor operator in Portsmouth Virginia.Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Looking at the polls, it seems quite probable that Obama will win the electoral college vote by a landslide and also lose the popular vote.
What would be your opinions under those circumstances?

I can live with that.
Having an electoral college distorts things. For example, I have seen very little campaigning here in Illinois. That the popular vote might differ from the electoral college is partly a consequence of that distortion.Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

Looking at the polls, it seems quite probable that Obama will win the electoral college vote by a landslide and also lose the popular vote. What would be your opinions under those circumstances? As long as Obama wins, I don't particularly care. I don't have a lot of faith in democracy - wolf/sheep metaphors aside, my opinion of the intelligence or ethical quality of by far the vast majority of Americans is piss poor. Democracy is a useful tool to limit violent revolution by emphasizing a system for popular change and gaining public "buy-in" through voting, but I'm unconvinced as to its qualities as a system of government. America has not prospered because it is a democracy - it has prospered because it happens to sit on top of ample natural resources and is bordered by oceans and friendly/impotent neighbors. I'm not terribly excited about Obama, I certainly don't like all of his policies. But I like him a hell of a lot better than Mitt Money, er, Romney. I don't want Romney to have a chance at nominating Supreme Court justices. And Romney's "budget" plan ("lower taxes" and then "close loopholes" to make the whole thing "budget neutral?" If it doesn't do anything to the budget then why bother enacting it?) only works for people who aren't paying attention, or who have an IQ below room temperature. Does anyone remember reading Abraham Lincolns famous House Divided Speech? In applying the principle to todays politics, one could say that consensus does not work as well as unity. One can argue that a divided ideological nation such as ourselves will not be able to achieve greatness.
To say that we, as people of intelligence, do not care is a cop out. An excuse, rather than an opportunity. Comments? Edited by Phat, : not sayin...
