Yes, the picture i posted IS racist. It's still funny though. Heres why:
1. You see the headline and you think you are about too see a touching moment.
2. You see the picture and think "Reagan feeding a chimp.. kinda touching..."
3. You see the final explanation, which is really racist, and denotes the 2 parts you see before no. 3.I did not expect the kind of reaction this had. The joke is the shock value, induced by the racism..I havent even seen this pic posted among far right wingers, ive only seen it posted as the joke it is.Edited by rbp, : No reason given.Edited by rbp, : No reason given.

I didn't join the chorus of jeers because I read your explanation immediately after seeing the image, and I accept it as offered in good faith.But the thing is, you're essentially saying, "This is truly funny in the context of me, because I'm not a racist.""I'm a non-racist, posting a racist thing. Hysterical, right?"But it isn't. It's just an ugly, racist thing.You, not a moderator, should edit it away.

When I first saw your post, I went through 1 and 2. I guess I missed the bottom line, which was off the bottom of the screen.I puzzled as to why anybody would think that funny enough to post in humor. And then I went on to a different thread.When I later came back (probably because of another post in Humour VII), I saw that long row of jeers, so looked more closely to try to understand why. That's when I got to: and that certainly explained the jeers.In any case, I gave you the benefit of the doubt (see Message 549) and did not add my own jeer.It does seem to me that if you see only points 1 and 2, then it is not at all funny. And once you see point 3, it is very unfunny.So I am still shaking my head in puzzlement.

The problem this kind of 'funny' has to overcome is a long history of jokes and non-jokes implying that black people are lower on the evolutionary ladder than everyone else.I did a peek through your posting history and concluded that it wasn't the least bit likely that you intended anything harmful. But it's not like racists, anti-semites, and homophobes never wander through here spewing. Kinda rare though.I still don't find the picture funny. I also don't find the idea that some people would find it funny all that humorous either. My opinion is that the posting makes the place look a little unwelcoming.

I laughed. And indeed, for the shock of it (can't believe anyone would post that, therefore funny). Humour, it's kinda personal, I guess.

I jeered, but not at first, it took me a couple of days.My first reaction was that it was just crass and unfunny. I didn't jeer it then because I didn't believe its intention was meant to be racist - actually I thought it was meant to be the opposite; a poke at those people who actually DO have those kind of thoughts.But in the end I jeered it because, despite my intellectualising of it, I still dislike the image at a gut level and wished I hadn't seen it.
