Dan Licht
An incredible surprise after I finished Dishonored for the first time was the totally un-trailed and unannounced Honor For All:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p0NFGgl7Cqs
Fabulous track - and just released on iTunes

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Pat Metheny
I've always been moved by this song.
Since I'm trying to learn Windows Live Movie Maker, I put together a "video poem". Hope you'll watch
...and as I'm not sure that is embedded right, here's a link :/

ELO
And another one I made from a band I've always loved
Ladies and gentlemen, the Electric Light Orchestra.

Re: ELO
A few years after the Beatles went their separate ways, (1970?), George Harrison is known to have said this;
quote:
"Having played with other musicians, I don't even think The Beatles were that good."
No doubt in my mind that one of the musicians he was referring to was Jeff Lynne of ELO.
Jeff liked the Beatles music, and built on it - took it to another level IMO.

Re: ELO
I am wondering if this is an apocryphal quote.
There does not seem to be an original source.

Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts
"God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

Re: ELO
I don't think so - the memory is faint for me, but I remember it being in the news back then. It was at a time when Lennon and McCartney were suing him, not sure if the suit was about that quote or not.
I found the quote here - it's where I got the exact wording.
When Harrison said that, I don't think ELO was quite off the ground yet, but Lynn was a member of one or two other 'beginner' groups before ELO. Lynne was English, as was Harrison, it wouldn't be hard to imagine those two meeting up at that time.
Many years later, they played together with the Traveling Wilburys!

This was a great thread, too good to die.
Go full screen to lose the Rihanna ad (if it appears).

I am not sure why but I found this to be profoundly moving. I think that it was mostly the gallery but the NZ parliament burst into song following a vote on gay marriage.
There was a pretty funny speech that preceded the vote.

The Wall tours
Just saw the latest rendition of The Wall tour last year. Though probably not as overwhelming as the Berlin show, it is amazing and stunning.
Snowy White is still making the guitar wail.
Here is the 8-track version of Pigs on the Wing, with a Snowy White solo.
Quality sucks but you get a taste. Worth tracking down if you are a Floyd or Snowy White fan. It is on his Goldtop album.
Here is another great song by Snowy

Chrissy's outta here
Christina "Chrissy" Amphlett has died. First multiple sclerosis, then cancer. Damn. Some people have to die too hard.
I first heard The Divinyls shortly before I left Asia: and so I learned there was a whole other rock 'n roll nation...way. down. there.
They peaked commercially in the 90s, I think, but as usual, I prefer the raw early stuff.

Negativland takes on religion
Negativland - It's All in Your Head (Part 2)
quote:
This live performance of "It's All in Your Head FM" is largely culled from an 11-part series of radio shows done by Negativland member Don Joyce on his weekly radio show Over the Edge, broadcast on the Berkeley, California radio station KPFA. The series was also called "It's All in Your Head", and its theme was to propose, and provide evidence for, the case that there is no God.
The live performance continues in that vein, with many samples of people discussing the various facets of Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and other major religions, and the role of religion in society. It is hosted by Don Joyce in one of his many alter egos, that of Dr. Oslo Norway, chairman of One World Advertising.
The premise of the recording is that with radio's audience having shrunk so much over the past decades, that a radio station would have to do something as outlandish as proclaim the non-existence of God to get ratings.
If the above quoted interests you, you can listen to the 1:01:41 long recording there, or download the 143MB file to keep.
The download link available there, is Free Music Archive - Page not found
The Free Music Archive (FMA) is a place where artists put out their work for free and legal download, to do anything you want with it, as long as money isn't involved. There is a huge mass of music to be had there.
