Na, there's no schizophrenia here, it's just interesting and fun to play with symbolism. Yeah, you can have hours of fun with the Book of Revelation if you treat it as a kind of party game. Just try not to take it too seriously.

ABE: Hey Here's a page that gives better pictures than the blogger I linked before. The Parliament Building in Brussels was actually DESIGNED to look like Breughel's Tower of Babel and it's called The Tower Building. Well, that's what the looney who wrote the webpage says. However, he gives no references.
I'd also note that the stars in the poster are rather pointedly shaped like the Baphomet image, the devil's head. You what?
And SURELY the fact that the designer of the flag based it on the Catholic interpretation of the woman with the crown of stars gives it a Roman Catholic meaning as opposed to a Protestant meaning. Hm? OK, it symbolizes that notorious ungodly Satanic harlot, the Virgin Mary. Have it your way.
What do you think of the empty 666 chair? I'd say that it's bollocks, 'cos I just looked it up. You can find the current seating plans for the two Parliament buildings here. In Strasbourg a chap called Luhan sits in seat 666, in Brussels a guy called Lichtenberger. The Antichrist is going to be so pissed off when he turns up and finds someone sitting in his chair, it'll be the whole Goldilocks fiasco all over again.

I remember when there was the G7...and then Russia joined tentatively so that there were "7 and an 8th not of the 7"....and I thought it was symbolic...until they became the G20...which has no symbolism whatsoever, apart from the fact that the world is becoming lots bigger and that the United States may no longer be a global power....this is the end times for US baby boomers with a sense of entitlement....it would be nice if Jesus rescued us from this hellhole of getting poorer....
The awful truth: education won't stop the west getting poorer I could almost see a war developing if the US middle class were squeezed clean out of the picture....

There's nothing in the Tower of Babel story that suggests rebellion against God. It seems more like an attempt to get closer to God. It also seems that God was afraid of human unity, much like He was afraid of human knowledge in the Garden of Eden.
Oh I DO think the fact that the EU made Breughel's Tower of Babel a model for their goal of world unification, which Biblically is a model of rebellion against God...

The 8th item is always "not of the 7". "7 and an 8th not of the 7""7 and an 8th not of the 7" is basically just called "8". If you are looking at multiples of 8 as being symbolic of the End of Days, then you must be permanently afraid.
Hmmm...Ok - you might have a point. Edited by Panda, : No reason given. Edited by Panda, : No reason given."There is no great invention, from fire to flying, which has not been hailed as an insult to some god." J. B. S. Haldane

Just how would it help the US middle class?Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

It would be rage directed at the audacity of picking cheaper global labor over the US worker. It would be a class war that would tear down the mansions and the temples(corporate headquarters) of these entitled class of people who dared to build their own American Dream on the backs of foreign labor while ignoring the US citizens who allowed their prosperity to happen.

I own a good bit of stock in corporations, primarily through 401K's and IRA's, so I am bad and need to be warred upon?
Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

So amazing to me that someone can come along and blithely contradict the understanding of the scripture that has been handed down for millennia as if all those who share it merely misunderstood it or are stupid or something. Common charity should forbid such hubris, such chutzpah, but that's in short supply these days among the Bible debunkers. There's really little point in trying to explain the true understanding. It's available in any orthodox Commentary. If you wanted to understand the truth it's available to you, but clearly you don't, you'd rather believe your own crabbed view of Christians.

So amazing to me that someone can come along and blithely contradict the understanding of the scripture that has been handed down for millennia ... But it hasn't been handed down for millennia. You made it up yesterday. There's nothing in Scripture to say they were rebelling against God. He never told them not to build their tower, did he? Instead, he says: "Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do; and now nothing will be withholden from them, which they purpose to do". That is, he's worried that they're going to get above themselves (so to speak) not that they're violating some commandment against building big towers which somehow he forgot to actually give them.

That the Tower of Babel was human rebellion is standard theology handed down for millennia. The part you quote is normally taken as a clue to this by those who understand the scripture, which obviously you don't. Get a clue.

It's a gloss on the text which has no relationship to the text. As for "handed down for millennia", please produce the clay tablet you are using as a reference.

God had commanded them to disperse and populate the earth. Instead of dispersing they gathered together to build their own method of reaching God.
Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. God had to force them to disperse by confounding their languages. Then they scattered as He had commanded them, against their will. There is more to it than this but this is the main point. You have to read in context. And it helps to consult commentaries to correct your misreadings. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

God had commanded them to disperse ... ... very quietly, so no-one could hear him. And it helps to consult commentaries to correct your misreadings. Ah, so much for sola scriptura. So is anyone allowed to tell me what the Bible means, or do they need a special hat?
