Maybe the tribute thread can be used for tributes, and if someone wants to discuss how horrible were Thatcher and Reagan they can open a thread over at Coffee House.

We set out for Woodstock in an old van that didn't make it. We set up camp in a roadside meadow somewhere in Ohio. A nearby college FM station (FM! radically new and subversive) synched their album sides to the artist then performing at Woodstock, so we heard a lot of Richie Havens. Within a day or two, we were joined by other children of god and did our own thing in our own mud, free of the bad brown acid
![]() RIP, Richie. What we wanted then seemed clear: "Seems like so many years since it's been clear..." "If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you can collect a lot of heads."

James Gandolfini RIP I enjoyed watching the Sopranos because I never knew what the hell this man was gonna do. The most heinous act of murder or the kindest act of humility. It was a toss up."You were not there for the beginning. You will not be there for the end. Your knowledge of what is going on can only be superficial and relative" William S. Burroughs

James Gandolfini RIP Let this be a motivator to all you chips eaters out there, less greasy foods more sit ups, push ups, and lets have lots of fiber.

RIP Lou.
Your songs sucked but then you knew that and sang them anyway. And I liked them!!!!!!! It was hilarious how the GMA folks where trying to embrace your lyrics with songs like Heroine and Waiting for the man..or LolllllllLLaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! I hope they bury you with your shades on dude. I don't know how many people here have watched Invictus (nor for that matter how much artistic licence was contained in it), but it paints a picture of a man of incredible wisdom, determination, intelligence, forgiveness, generosity and vision.
There are so, so few people like him. I hope we find others.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Don't always believe all the hype.
He did a lot of bad (endorsed an armed struggle involving planting bombs in restaurants; land mines on farm roads and/or at shopping malls, etc.) ; he became a better man and then something resembling a Saint as he aged. Who can't remember that wonderful day at Ellis Park when we won the Rugby World Cup and Madiba lifted that trophy? In his older days, he and FW got the nation together. He couldn't have done it without FW. FW couldn't have done it witout him. FW is just as much of a hero. Much forgotten in the hype, though. Edited by Pressie, : No reason given.
