Where do pop ups come from...

I am not entirely calcified yet. I love to learn new things but I do not love learning the same thing over and over again. I do enough of that already. Its like changing the position of the letters on the keyboard every 2 yrs. WTF? Change things if it makes them better but otherwise I say leave them alone.

I am using a 2006 DELL inspiron running XP I never update, I had to wipe it clean and reinstall once. I love my laptop.

They have to keep changing things to sell the new version. Remember when eveything was advertised as "new and improved"? Nowadays they just have to call it "new" and everybody assumes it's improved, whether it is or not.

I think my Latitude is about that old.Good, stable, little worker.

They can be found at quite reasonable prices. I've owned a couple of them and I'm using a clunky D800 right now. But in my experience, they run hot causing the hard drives to fail prematurely.

Mcafee and norton are crap bloatware. Overpriced shit.Run MS security essentials and malwarebytes. Occasionally have each do a complete scan. In order for these to be effective you have to update them regularly. MS has daily updates to security essentials and defender.Security essentials is free, malwarebytes
has a nominal cost.

So have you tried Windows 8 yet?

Well no not yet, my machine is running smoothly. But again, what do these new OS s do that the old ones don't? It seems like it is mostly furniture arranging to me. Keeps the economy going I guess. Am I not being a good little consumer?I have a HP Pavilion desk top with Vista gathering dust here. Maybe I will fire that up and see if it works. It is almost pre-aged enough for me to feel comfortable with it. I suppose that I should upgrade my stuff before everything crashes and I lose it all. I meant, like, trying out a demo at a store. I was really impressed with the new search function of Windows 7. Its not just for files anymore, you can search for functions that the OS performs.So, say you want to change your screen resolution. You can type into the search box "change screen resolution" and it will pop up with the video settings options. There's other stuff that changes behind the scenes too, though. Networking can get easier and more secure. The way the OS implements hardware. Stuff like that that you don't see from your computer chair.Actually, I just put in a new motherboard in my computer, which runs Windows 7. Normally, that's a whole new build with reinstalling the OS. We decided to just through everything back together to see what happens. Windows fired right up. And it was installed on a Raid 0 on two harddrives. That's actually pretty sweet.

A long way from the days of dealing with irq's dma and dealing with dip switches. Tracking down irq conflicts was always fun. But was also fun being able to access all the hardware directly.

I'm not that old... This new motherboard has a 3D bios, which is kinda cool: I have a different board than that one.
