The more deeply personal you go, the more universal you get*
Buried anybody really close yet?
This song was in your heart, whether you heard it or not.

Much too fat and a little too long
For me, one of the broad themes of the counter-culture movement of the 60s was the reclamation of our animal selves; it was like 50 million people (not necessarily the 50 Million Elvis Fans Who Couldn't Be Wrong ) suddenly discovered their sensuality was being dried out, ground up and sprinkled on the dead for giggles on tv.
Of course that's just one man's pov.
Artist: Spirit
Album: The 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus
Song: Animal Zoo
Song: Mr. Skin

"If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you can collect a lot of heads."

The Silver Hearts
I saw about 5/7ths of these guys a few yrs ago at a party out on a farm in northern Ontario. If you ever get the chance I would highly recommend them. You will see some things that you never saw before.

Some current faves
I think my musical tastes are, for the most part, not evolved enough to post here, but I do really like the ones below.
The National - "About Today"
Album: Cherry Tree
Indie Rock
Frank Turner - "Photosynthesis"
Album: Last Minutes & Lost Evenings
English Folk/Punk
The Heavy - "Short Change Hero"
Album: The House That Dirt Built
Neo Soul/Rock
P.S. I think someone should start a thread on our favorite movie scenes.

Never heard Perahia before. Probably the best Goldberg Variations I've ever heard. I'm no connoisseur but sometimes a performer will blow me away as he just did. So did Martha Argerich when I first heard her Bach Partita No. 2. Unfortunately that's no longer at You Tube or I'd post it.
ABE: Oh it's back up: Argerich Partita 2 /ABE
But Richter is nice too.
Good for the blood pressure during debate.
ABE: P.S. I loved the Perahia but I don't really want Dr. A to answer my post since he'll only have something snarky to say. I'm just talking to myself.

Never heard Perahia before.
I have never really appreciated classical music very much apart from Handel's Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks. The equivalent of pop songs I suppose.
It strikes me, as an amateur musician, what an incredible feat of memory it must be to learn a piece like this. Truly beautiful.

Handel is the greatest, the best. If the Water Music and Fireworks are "pop" too bad, they're the best. Love both those and of course Messiah.
But I learned to love Bach when I roomed with a bunch of musicians at college and thanks to them was soaked in Glenn Gould and Wanda Landowska who were THE popular classical musicians in those days. Glenn Gould was so quirky you couldn't feel overawed by him. I tried to learn some of Gould's stuff on the piano myself I loved it so much, but my totally amateur ability and small town piano lessons weren't equal to it. I did get to play a Handel duet with my friend who played cello and we even performed for a ladies' writing club, really quite thrilling.
