Re: Such a groundswell of opinion against freedom of religion
So should Christians in a restaurant refuse to serve fat people, because that would validate gluttony ?
So where am I supposed to eat?
What would be neat, of course, would be for jewish run businesses to refuse service to christians. No Bed, Bath & Beyond, no Home Depot, Costco, Starbucks, Disney World and all the various franchise operations like McDonald's, Subway, Outback, KFC and the list goes on. Such laws would allow such things.
Sign on the door of my local Souper Salad: "We Do Not Serve Non-Asians!"
Mercado Juarez: "No Gringos!"
Quick Trip: "We reserve the right to refuse service to Catholics, Negros, Redheads and Canadians!"
Cornerstone Baptist Church: "No Pentecostals!"

Re: Let's limit this discussion to the specifics
Yes, this is where the culture has gone, against freedom of conscience and from the sound of it you're all happy with this and freedom of conscience is as good as dead.
Your "Freedom of Conscience," Faith, allows you to believe as you wish, keep your own circle of friends and vote with your voice, your feet and your dollars.
What it does not allow you, Faith, is to usurp this freedom from others and actively bar their humanity by denial of common rights. If you openly engage in business to the public that mean ALL of the public, Faith. If you cannot abide by that out of your own immoral religious views then you have the freedom of conscience to quit your business.

I don't know, man. It is a big internet and there is still a whole big bunch of day left.
Besides, I can't take credit for this - it was Faith.

Re: There are Christians who disagree with Faith
From this thread I gather that there are no real rights anyone wants to grant to Christians or conservatives.
While this may sound like an excellent idea the legal philosophy of this nation will not allow such official government sanction of discrimination against christians and conservatives. They must be afforded the same protections against social discrimination as blacks and gays. This is the cross we have to bear living in a free society.

Re: There are Christians who disagree with Faith
As has been pointed out various times by various people in these posts ...
You christians are decrying what you see as discrimination against you for not allowing you to discriminate against others.
It does not matter if your bigotry is heartfelt or in keeping with your conscience. Bigotry is bigotry. If you want to hate in your heart that is between you and your bigoted version of a god. If you want to actively practice your bigotry by denying common rights to others then that is a matter between you and the rest of a free secular society. Society is saying you have no right to actively practice your bigotry in the people's marketplace. You lose.

Re: There are Christians who disagree with Faith
Call it "discrimination" -- such as a person's conscience against gay marriage ...
Not their conscience, Faith. They can keep that all they want. Bigoted action is the issue. You may want to call it a fine line but we know you here, Faith. We know you understand the difference.
It doesn't matter how much wailing and gnashing of teeth you do. You cannot take your actions of bigotry and hatred into the marketplace.
Just like you cannot take hateful bigoted action by denying rights and services based on race, sex, age, disability or religion, society is now adding sexual orientation to that list.
I think the message is clear. Taking hateful bigoted actions against anyone is not going to be looked upon kindly by our free secular society.
Some people who, through nature or nurture, have defective brains twisted in hate, like skinheads and those westboro baptist freaks, really love to hate people for flimsy reasons. But, for a normal, feeling, human being with any sense of empathy and compassion for the human condition, I would think that if your Jesus required you to hate anyone, that would be a good reason to quit and leave that cult behind, wouldn't you?
Or are you condoning hatred and bigotry in society?

Re: There are Christians who disagree with Faith
Far as I know all I'm condoning is the right to conscientiously refuse to do anything that is felt to support gay marriage.
You condone the excuse, you condone the result.
You are condoning hatred and bigotry.
You are making the baby Jesus cry.

What Body?
We are saved from death by RESURRECTION, DA, not from actually having to die. We don't stay dead, we don't even stay in spirit form, we are resurrected with our BODIES ,,,
Good god! I don't want to be resurrected into this old, achy, arthritic body! Can't I have a better, younger one? I would like fresh eyes that are not fuzzy everywhere, a better digestive system that won't clog up, a bladder that actually stays empty for more than two hours ... and a bigger dick would be nice.

Re: What Body?
Where in my, fast becoming, inerrant bible does it assure this perfection in my AL (after life) body? Is there a list of what attributes this AL body has, what is meant by "perfect"? I certainly don't want to leave those kinds of decisions to a tribe of 3000 year old desert nomads.
If I'm given a new perfect body, "perfect" would have to do something about my face. I might feel like me inside but it wouldn't really be me, would it? I mean, it would really not do for me to look into my perfect mirror in my perfect man-cave and have to ask, "Who the hell are you?!"
