Finally here and there a trickle of news about how Christians are persecuted all over the world, especially in the Muslim world, is starting to come out. You probably can't understand how astonishing this is to me, but I've known about these enormities for years through Christian sources and hardly ever see any of it reported in the major media.
So here's a story about a Sudanese woman who is eight months pregnant and scheduled for execution because she refuses to recant her Christian faith. The Inquisition Muslim style
KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) A pregnant Sudanese woman who married a Christian man was sentenced to death Thursday after she refused to recant her Christian faith, her lawyer said.
Even the Huffington Post had a story about it recently
I don't know if this should even be in Proposed Topics, maybe it should just be a Coffee House topic.

I don't want to rain on what is a genuine human rights problem but the examples don't seem to be "true Christians" by your standards.
They may not be, strictly speaking, but if they are being persecuted because they are considered by their persecutors to be Christians that makes them Christians. Like Hitler's identifying as Jews anybody with even a small percentage of Jewish blood. What does it matter whether the Jewish community would accept them as Jewish or not, I'd say they are Jewish if they are being persecuted as Jewish. What's unusual in this case is that they are identified as Christians, that's what is rarely found in the media. You may hear for instance of "ethnic" conflicts, but when you get into the facts of the situations it's the usual outbreak of Muslim violence against a Christian community. Also, although some who call themselves Christians may not really be saved, they ARE culturally Christians and that's important too.
ABE: P.S. and they MAY be saved, I'm not saying they aren't.

You are certainly a master at finding the most evil vicious construction to put on anything I do. Perhaps EvC should set up a special medal for you to acknowledge this great accomplishment.

You're right I wasn't focused on that, I had seen the story right before I posted on it, and yes I assume there are channels for joining the voices who are condemning this. I would expect a petition to come around to me soon and if so I can pass it on. In this case even our government and other governments have objected, so I didn't feel the woman was being abandoned. If I find out what you can do I'll let you know, but you may in fact be able to beat me to it.

You can bug our elected representatives. They may have more clout than a petition circulated by private citizens.

I'm glad you are concerned about this.
How about also protesting the girls kidnapped from school in Nigeria. They're Christians too or most of them and their kidnappers murderous Muslim fanatics.
As American military and intelligence specialists joined the hunt for Nigeria’s missing schoolgirls, U.S. officials expressed frustration Thursday with the country’s inability to act on fresh intelligence about the Boko Haram extremists who took more than 200 teenagers captive and threatened to
I think they finally released the pastor who had been imprisoned in Iran a few years ago but there are always more you could protest.

I'm just glad to know you're keeping track of it all. Often there isn't anything one can do, as you say.

I've often thought along those lines myself. We wouldn't be welcome, of course, would probably trigger some violence, so I'm not sure it's all that great an idea when you think it through.

She's still not released but the international uproar is very encouraging.

Guess it was too much to hope that even an international outcry would make a difference to the hidebound Sudanese government. This is the same government that engineered, and I gather is still promoting, the genocidal atrocities of Darfur. The UN doesn't do anything despite international opinion against these actions. What can anybody do in such a situation?
This woman's plight is pitiable, and especially that of her small children, most particularly the little boy who is old enough to suffer in a way his newborn sister isn't yet. Meriam has been subjected to unnecessary pain and indignities, including having to give birth to her daughter while her feet were shackled to the floor and then lying in the blood from the delivery for days afterward.
There is also a claim that her children are US citizens that is either being ignored or unfairly contested so that the US is doing nothing about it.
Here are some links:
Guardian story describing her mistreatment.
Kerry responds but nothing happens. Question of children's US citizenship raised.
ACLJ on children's US citizenship. Accuses Obama administration of following Shariah law rather than US law.

Re: Meriam Ibrahim Freed
Oh I missed the report, thanks for posting it. I hope those quote marks around "freed" don't imply some kind of deception about whether she really was let go or not, especially since as the Guardian says nobody has yet seen any of the family.
Tears of joy.
