Why is it that a negative opinion of homosexuality is viewed as intolerant? Why can't someone think homosexuality is disgusting? Independent thought and free speech only apply in certain cases? IOW, we should be tolerant of other people's views until they are in conflict with your own?

Well, guess what? The majority of women could be overpowered by the majority of men, and yet we don't freak out every time a man hits on us.

I spent a whole year at Uni living next to possibly the gayest man in exsistence, he also happened to be a particularly unattractive example of homo sapiens, and to put it bluntly he took a liking to me.
At the time I was playing first team rugby for the Uni which rather cut my options down, if I had gone to the college principle, explained the situation and asked to move rooms he would have laughed at me and said what you can`t handle it yourself, if I had "handled" it myself I would have been in more trouble as he ran to said principle and said "look what the nasty rugby player did"...
The solution was fairly elegant I got a girlfriend in another college and lived over there....
The problem wasn`t that he was gay but that he was a)repulsive and b)would not accept that his attentions were unwanted...
If he had been able to understand my use of the vernacular "fuck off Russell I`m not interested" we probably could have been friends....
(n.b said girlfriend is now my wife)

You have the freedom of speech and thought. However, isn't there a difference between not agreeing with anothers lifestyle and hating them for it? As much as you are entitled to have a negitive opinion on the matter, a homosexual has the right to have a postive view on it, not to mention the freedom to choose that lifestyle. Frankly, I have a negative opinion of people who condemn others simply for not agreeing with what they believe. Now, Kindpenguin is fully entitled to believe what he will, but hostility and hate are hostility and hate, no matter what you cloak it in. However, even though I don't agree with KingPeguins views, I agree he has the right to freedom of thought and speech. As long as you don't harm another, you are free to believe what you will. COurse, hatred has a tendency of leading people to violent acts, which is not a freedom of expression.
If woman can handle unwanted advances on a daily basis, than I believe it is within the realm of reason for men to be able do the same (if the situation ever arrives, which for most men, I doubt it will ever be an issue.)

Not to turn the topic but who says this is even wrong? What standard are you applying when you say 'don't harm others'?
Also, I am not speaking for KP but I didn't read anywhere in his post advocating the hurting of homosexuals.

There is if they "force themselves on other men" as you put it its rape and they go to prison....
Or did you mean exsisting and being gay by "force themselves..."?

joz, he may be talking about gay men hitting on straight men. Although in that case, it's still covered under "sexual harassment".

Not really, unless asking someone out for a drink is sexual harrassment. May as well arrest all married men who asked their future wives out on a date, in that case.

Does the same thing (that there should be a punishment) apply to straight men who hit on lesbians? If not why not? After all thats as much sexual harassment as what you described....
Oh and read post 17 and you`ll note that I have experience with being hit upon...

I'm not talking about asking someone out for a drink. Such cases are not forcing oneself upon another. One could simply say "i'm not gay", and be done with it.
But continued advances or sexual advances, are sexual harassment.
Going "hey, wanna have a drink sometime" isn't harassment.
Going "hey, nice ass", however, is.
joz:
Of course it applies. It applies to situations between all americans, regardless of age, race, or sexual orientation. It also applies between two gay people, and between two straight people.
