Using google maps, I calculate the distance from the red buildings in the left foreground of the picture to be 2.6 km from the city centre. If the meteor is only 5 km long then shouldn't it be a little smaller?
Looking again, maybe its about right

So they are going to try and land on this thing within the next few hours after a couple hundred million kms and 10 yrs of flying. On top of that, when they get there it turns out that

Yes science works but there is also an element of shear luck. It is hard to tell from this one picture but doesn't it look like they just missed a spot that would have tipped the thing over. That is the landers foot.
Truly an awesome achievement.

Too bad they don't have some reflective surfaces on the orbiter that they could use to shine some light on the scene.
