Tony Gwynn
Tony Gwynn, san diego hall of famer , died of cancer at age 54.
He had a number of operations for tumors in his mouth over the last few years. He blamed smokeless tobacco for his condition.

John Dawson Winter III (Johnny Winter) (February 23, 1944 — July 16, 2014), et all
Found out via Greg Laden.
A very white man who could play the blues.
Added by edit: Also maybe Keith Richards only competition for the annual "Keith Richards Walking Dead" award. To me, Johnny was more significant than Stevie Ray Vaughan. (/ABE)

Actor Robin Williams Dead in Apparent Suicide
Actor Robin Williams Dead in Apparent Suicide
quote:
Beloved actor and comedian Robin Williams was found dead in his home in Tiburon, Calif. on Monday. He was 63.
...
Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss, Mara Buxbaum, the actor’s publicist, said in a statement emailed to BNO News. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.
Williams had long struggled with mental illness: PBS noted that Williams "use[d] the manic and depressive cycles of his bipolar disorder to produce comedic genius on and off screen."

It is not 100% surprising, but it is very sad. He was an amazing comedian.

I think if you open up your dictionary and, flipping it towards the back and looking up the word "sultry", she'll be right there, still smoking a sexy cigarette.

If she had been in Casablanca instead of Bergman, Rick would have kept her and we would have lost the war.

Lauren Bacall and Arlene Martel
First of all, it just isn't right that the acknowledgement of Ms. Bacall does not include a single picture, so let's fix that.
Passing away in the same week Ms. Arlene Martel, who is probably best known for her portrayal as Mr. Spock's betrothed and as a bad genie on 'I dream of Genie'. Her son said that it was kind weird accompanying mom to fan shows because guys would have a crush on your mom because she’s a sci-fi babe from the ’60s.
Rest in Peace gals. The world's just that tiny bit less beautiful without you.

Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846)
I have never met a man so ignorant that I couldn't learn something from him. Galileo Galilei
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. Frederick Douglass
