Raleigh, NC for size
I can't vouch for the accuracy of this, I only ran across it on the internet, but someone spliced the comet onto a graphic of Raleigh, NC to show the size of it. Though it was worth sharing here:

Re: Raleigh, NC for size
Using google maps, I calculate the distance from the red buildings in the left foreground of the picture to be 2.6 km from the city centre. If the meteor is only 5 km long then shouldn't it be a little smaller? Looking again, maybe its about right Edited by ProtoTypical, : No reason given.

Re: Raleigh, NC for size
Yeah, I was going to do some measuring too, to see how accurate it was, but then I had to actually get to work at my job

The link does not work for me. I've tried entering the URL directly and that does not work either. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Hrm, they're both working fine for me. I got it from here: http://www.reddit.com/...d2k20/comet_67p_raleigh_nc_for_size ABE: I just Shift+F5'd this page and it loaded in just fine. Edited by Catholic Scientist, : No reason given.

The issue seems to involve the computers at work. I cannot see the image at reddit either. Thanks for trying to help. I'll take another look when I get home. Higher resolution and closer
I like how you can see individual rocks and even ripples in the sand:

The moment of truth approaches
So they are going to try and land on this thing within the next few hours after a couple hundred million kms and 10 yrs of flying. On top of that, when they get there it turns out that
quote: Rosetta’s measurements have shown that the bulk of the comet is less than half the density of water,
Maybe they should have named the mission after a boat instead of a stone.

The decision has just been taken to launch the probe - seperation in 30 minutes, 7 hours to landing. They're talking it down a bit, the chances of it landing in a suitable place are only about 70% apparently. It would be a great shame if it touched down, landed on a rock and tipped over. Travelled hundreds of millions of miles, then falls over in the last few inches.

She's down! They have telemetry. Lander is sitting on the rocks and talking to them - everyone looks slightly shocked and manically happy. Science works :-)

Yes science works but there is also an element of shear luck. It is hard to tell from this one picture but doesn't it look like they just missed a spot that would have tipped the thing over. That is the landers foot. Truly an awesome achievement.
