Re: Black Holed theory
We don't know for sure, therefore all science is crap and we should just follow the holy bible.

Re: Black Holed theory
The fact of the matter is science is very unreliable. Today, they say one thing. Tomorrow, they will say another. The ever changing nature of science makes it useless. There is absolutely nothing useful that has come from science.
Religion, on the other hand, is completely reliable because of its never changing nature. God has given us everything from cars to computers. I thank god everyday we continue to pray our diseases away and burn witches to keep evil from spreading. Perhaps we should add scientists to the fire-able bunch?

Re: Black Holed theory
I'm missing something here. How is any of this of relevance when the universe is only 6 thousand years old and the rapture is about to happen anytime now?

Re: Black Holed theory
Again, irrelevant. The bible is the inerrant word of god. We will all be raptured anytime now. Science has always and will always be wrong. Don't forget that science used to tell us the sun orbit the earth. Now, the high priests of science did a reversal and try to tell us that the earth revolves around the sun. They can't get their facts straight!
What's next? Pretty soon, they'll change their minds again and try to tell us that the earth and the sun orbit each other.
Only the word of god is inerrant and forever unchanging. Amen!
Added by edit.
Ok, I've gone too far. Sorry. I'll stop now. Sorry for trolling. Couldn't help myself. This thread reminds me of the Rush Limbaugh program I listened to a number of years ago when Hawking conceded to his friend about the info paradox. Rush made the argument that since science keeps changing it's not reliable, and that only the bible makes sense... or something like that.

Re: Black Hole found
Way ahead of you. I figured this out long ago. I torture myself by watching fox news, regularly catch Bill O'Reilly, occasionally tune to Glen Beck, and always tune to Rush Limbaugh. I'm starting to hate gay people and scientists... and black hoes.
My question is this. If you throw lots and lots and lots of matter together, what's to prevent it from going over the threshold and collapse into a black hole?

Re: Black Hole found
The question stands. What force would prevent lots and lots of matter clumped together to collapse?

Who said lots of matter clumped together would collapse?
Again, the question stands. Can you explain why lots of matter clumped together would not collapse under its own gravity? What happens when there is enough concentrated matter to overcome the pauli exclusion principle?

Re: Mass and gravity thing
I'm afraid you are confusing mass and volume. Try to think of it this way. What weighs more, a ton of brick or a ton of feather?
Well, the answer is they both weigh the same. But a ton of brick would occupy a lot less volume than a ton of feather, uncompacted of course.
When we have lots and lots of matter clumped together, the overall gravity of this thing increases. This would cause the object to shrink in size due to gravity. But the overall mass remains the same.
What would keep such an object from collapsing further is the outward pressure by the mass itself. So, eventually such an object would settle on a certain size. If you add more matter to it, the gravity would increase and, depending on the outward pressure, the object would shrink in size again while its mass would increase.
In physics, there is a principle called the pauli exclusion principle. Look it up. This principle sets a certain limit to the collapse of matter due to the outward pressure of subatomic particles. We call these objects neutron stars.
But what if the object in question has more mass, thus more gravitational pull, to overcome the pauli exclusion principle?
And this is where my question comes in for you. Can you explain to us what force or principle would prevent such an object to collapse further?
