Re: Augustine and Sex
Augustine's idea that Original Sin has anything to do with sex is weirdly wrong. The idea that prevailed, although I should find out more about who thought what down the centuries, anyway the idea that the Protestant Reformers had and that church fathers other than Augustine also had, was simply that Original Sin was disobedience, period. God said don't, they did, and that was that.

Re: What Works?
I just happened to hear a sermon on the radio that might be encouraging to you in your understanding of the Christian life. "The Desiring God" which you can find listed as "Study Hall" on the left margin of this page. It's repeated again tonight at 8pm Pacific time. Not sure where you are but I suppose that might be a little late for you. There's another talk listed I haven't heard that has a title that sounds like it might be apropos: "Jesus' Transforming Power on the Part of the Afflicted." I've never heard of either of these speakers but the one I just heard was very good so maybe the other one would be also.
I also am what they call "pre-diabetic." I have a blood monitor and I try to be careful. I think the trick is to choose foods you like a lot out of the category that is best for your condition. It's mostly meat and vegetables that work best, guaranteed to bring down your blood sugar count, so pick the meat you really love even if it's expensive steak (you can cut it to a reasonable portion), and vegies too. Mine is asparagus. Steak and asparagus is a heavenly meal. You can have bacon and eggs for breakfast, avoid the pancakes and the French toast and the cereal. That's another perfect meal for me, but you'll have your own preferences. Do NOT listen to the diabetes "experts" -- they allow way too much carbohydrate and they restrict you on fat. No, do Atkins style eating, it will lower both your blood sugar and your cholesterol.
And of course, pray a LOT for help.

Re: From another closed topic
Phat is right. You could even say that the purpose of salvation is to restore to us the ability to communicate with God which was lost to Adam and Eve when they disobeyed. If human beings are made in the image of God the least that means is that our minds or spirits were created with enough affinity with His to make such communication possible. We don't need to know how this happens but all born-again Christians have had the experience of knowing God's mind on particular subjects through the Holy Spirit who is given to believers. If you don't understand these things the reason is obvious, you deny God, you deny everything revealed in the Bible, you are so far from born again you are dead again.

Re: An interesting example of women speaking during a service.
She's my hero, we need more like her. Like Ian Paisley who stood up in European Parliament, of which he was a member, to shout down Pope John Paul as the Antichrist, because the members had not been allowed to vote on his being invited to speak. I hope for much more of this.
Of course the National Cathedral has already been sullied by the rites of Baal many times, since it's "ecumenical" in spirit. I remember particularly G W Bush's travesty of a prayer service for the nation after 9/11 when speakers included a rabbi, an imam, an RC priest among others. I've written many times at my blog about how "ecumenical" prayer for the nation can only bring God's judgment, a curse rather than God's blessing. How stupid can we get?

Re: An interesting example of women speaking during a service.
Yeah, the Episcopal Church especially in recent times has lost even the pretense of being Christian, but there it is representing Christianity as the nation's religion to people who don't know any better, and I applaud Christine Wieck for her courage. She's lost husband and children recently because she refused to compromise on gay marriage and other "liberal" causes.
I imagine you can provide evidence and dates for when rites of Baal were held at the Washington National Cathedral or are just jess making shit up again?
I think Bush's Baal worship service was two or three days after 9/11. Any time another religion is hosted there is a time of Baal worship. How many over the years, I don't know. But I'm glad somebody finally stood up to protest.

Wait for it, it's coming. Sometimes many years pass while sin accumulates before God lowers the boom. Really it's already here if you understand the signs, such as the increase in popularity of Islam since 9/11 when they attacked us, but I'm sure you'll need something a little more definite than that.

I don't recall ever talking about some "Golden Age." Things are, however, a lot worse now than they ever were before in my lifetime, if that's what you mean.

Mad as I get at all of you, when it really hits me how bad it is going to get I do feel sorry for all of you and hope you will see that Jesus can save you if things get as horrible as I think they are going to. It may be a lot harder on me at first but I'm not worried about me in the end, but I am worried about all of you.

Re: Another chance for you to learn Faith.
I'm using "Baal" as a catchall for all the pagan idolatrous religions. I could name Molech and Dagon and Tammuz and others if you like. Or Allah.

Re: Another chance for you to learn Faith.
The name of the God of Abraham is not Allah, it's Jehovah or Yahweh. The name of God matters. Allah was originally the name of a god in the Arab pantheon of gods, but Mohammed promoted him to God.

Re: An interesting example of women speaking during a service.
What things are worse? How would your life be better in the past than they are now?
I don't think in terms of "my life." My life is neither better or worse now than it was fifteen or twenty years ago.
Just today we had the Muslim Imam as "guest chaplain" in Congress and the members actually bowed their heads for prayer to the demon god Allah. Then the imam went to the National Cathedral for a Muslim prayer service, which is where the woman jar mentioned protested. To you this is probably just fine, to me this is very heavy judgment by God against America from which I don't see any possible recovery. It's just a step to far worse. It may have to go much further before you notice things aren't exactly as you'd like them to be, and you probably won't make any connection with the true causes of it either. The nation is heavy with sins of all kinds.

Re: An interesting example of women speaking during a service.
God Himself gave us His Name in scripture, I AM that I AM, or The Self-Existent One, that is what Jehovah means, or now as it is rendered, Yahweh. He told Abraham that is His Name, and He also told Moses the same.
Allah has no such meaning. And they like to tell us repeatedly that Allah "does not have a son" so how can anyone say he is the same as the God of the Bible?

Re: An interesting example of women speaking during a service.
Elohim is the generic name for gods or God, but Jehovah is God's Name as He said. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is THE God, which even the surrounding nations recognized as reported in scripture.
Allah was originally the name of a lesser god in the Arab pantheon, the moon god, which rather explains the moon symbol associated with Islam, wouldn't you think?

The full revelation of the Messiah was not given in the Old Testament, it had to wait for the New Testament, but there are plenty of hints in the OT that He will be God Himself incarnate anyway. Then there's the reference in Psalm 2: "Kiss the Son..."
