Why should the Pope embrace evolution? Everything that I have read is consistent with the interpretation:
The Catholic Church is not a scientific organization, and the Pope is not a scientist. Therefore, the Church does not take a stand on the theory of evolution. The theory is the currently accepted scientific theory of the material origins of the present species, including humans, and so the Church accepts that it is the best explanation of the diversity of life. But, since all scientific ideas can be modified or discarded as new data comes in, the Church cannot state the the theory of evolution, or any other scientific theory, is the absolute truth lest it has to change its doctrines if and when new theories arise.
