Yes, she was accidentally shot by her two-year old son, but if instead of being a toddler he'd been a Bad Guy With A Gun, then her gun would have ensured her perfect safety. Now as we all know you are much more likely to encounter a Bad Guy With A Gun in WalMart than a toddler, so the tragic results of her prudence and forethought shouldn't be held against the poor innocent gun.

When will you get it Percy? Guns don't kill people, toddlers kill people. If that mum had had another gun, she could have shot her child before the child shot her. What we need is more guns not less.

A thought for a letter of condolence the NRA could send to the woman's family:"Dear [ ],We are sorry to hear of the tragic loss of [ ]. We are sure that you will agree that this was a terrible accident, which had nothing to do with the inherent danger of carrying a loaded gun around with you.We hope that you will understand, and take comfort from the fact, that her death is a sacrifice we are willing for you to make, so that we can maintain the fuzzy, warm illusion that we can prevent a burglary or mass shooting every other week, through our professional and John Wayne-like use of our beautiful guns.Yours, in solidarity."

It's okay Percy, because she had a permit for a concealed weapon, that automatically makes it a good shoot.And because she was not shot by a bad actor with a gun, then she must have been the bad actor with the gun, and that justifies the shooting ...

I heard this on NPR driving home and my first thought ... OK my second ... OK, my third thought was how could the NRA spin these. I think I have it. The reports I've seen say that the gun was in the zippered purse. But that detail may be wrong.Apparently mom left the 2 year old in a shopping cart with the purse. Unfortunately, no thief happened by to steal the purse before the kid got ahold of it.
