Re: Huckabee Discovers Group He Hasn't Offended Yet, Offends Them
Fortunately Huckabee is irrelevant. It's impossible to be as far right as that guy is and still present an electable face after the primary is over.
I'm sure Huckabee wasn't really talking about Native Americans. He probably meant to refer to those simplistic shows with cowboys with black hats who rustled cattle, hit women and set ambushes vs those cowboys with white hats who shot to wound and defended women's honor with their fists. In other words stupid crap instead of offensive crap.

If so that simply shows once again how ignorant Huckabee, all his staff and his supporters are since quite a few of the "good guy" cowboys always wore black like Hoot Gibson and Zoro and Lash Larue.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

I'm sure a good guys did wear some black hats. Lash Larue apparently wore black to play up being a bad good guy, but yes he and Zorro are good counter examples. Hoot seems to have worn all kinds of hats.
But the simplification is on me and not Huckabee who did not really say anything about hats or Native Americans. I doubt it ever occurred to Huck to think of something from the fifties as anything but something great to be emulated. Most people have figured out by now that those old movies were simplistic nonsense that romanticized an earlier era into something not quite the truth.
Isn't it about time these guys were out of politics? Are 50s cowboy pictures really that great a lesson on how a president ought to handle foreign relations?
Edited by NoNukes, : change error to era.

I asked that during the 1980 election and the folk went and elected one twice.

Maybe he never saw The Searchers (1956).

The Searchers
Is this any good? I typically avoid John Wayne's stuff.
After reading the plot synopsis, I see your point. This is definitely a movie that would confuse the heck of Huckabee.

Yes it is an excellent movie, as it addresses both bigotry against "Native Americans" ( anyone with familiarity knows the native people here go by the name of the group, not some global affectation) and cultural value clash which leads to an interesting value-laden conclusion.
Just as poetry was the primary form of communicating culture in Chaucer's time and plays were in Shakespeare's time so are motion pictures in our time. It is high art in some instances.
Moose please help me out here. You have the best memory of all past posts, I can't seem to find my old movie thread with search engines, and I want to restart it as I have a few things to say.

Anglagard, I had some time on my hands so I did a quick search and I think the "The Movie Thread" is what you were looking for.

Things Rand Paul Doesn't Know
Maybe I should cross-post this to Loony Of The Week.

Tips on finding an old topic you started
Moose please help me out here. You have the best memory of all past posts,...
I have a terrible memory. I forget what I've already composed in a messages first paragraph, when I'm working on the third paragraph.
...I can't seem to find my old movie thread with search engines, and I want to restart it as I have a few things to say.
If you know you started a topic in a certain forum, you can make use of the forum's search. Select (in this case) "Coffee House" forum, select search by thread titles, and enter "anglagard" for author name. This will give you the list of the most recent topics you've started in the "Coffee House" (in your case, all 11). The movie topic currently is the 8th down. If you've started a lot of topics, you may need to enter a search term also.
But someone else has found your topic. So this is a general tip to help future searches.
Adminnemooseus

Or something like that.

Two more people joining the fray. Rick Santorum and George Pataki both jumped in. Santorum , the less said the better, and no, an ex -governor from NY will not have a chance.
